Barring any last minute changes, Nigeria’s leading opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is set to cancel its national convention scheduled to hold this weekend in Port-Harcourt, Rivers State and set up a Caretaker Committee to resolve grievances and unite the party, SIGNAL can report.

A top party official who spoke to SIGNAL from Port-Harcourt on Saturday disclosed the details.

According to the source who did not want to be named, “As I am speaking to you now, top level meetings are going on and top on the agenda of the meetings is the cancellation of the convention to pave way for a Caretaker Committee that will unite the party.”

The source said some party bigwigs were concerned about sacrificing the future of the party on the altar of the ambition of Ali-Modu Sheriff and his supporters.

Re-brand the party
merger with Kowacce APPS and PDM
change the party's name and/or logo
then PDP would have a chance. At least I know they would win some seats back in the North. But defeating PMB is not possible, no matter what.

what was d difference between Buhari and Jonathan despite the unity the north had jn voting buhari except few states in 2015?
U think if another northerner contests will Buhari, he will get those hogwash votes he had jn 2015 ?

The difference was that in 2011 people (North inclusive) were giving GEJ the benefit of the doubt. Hence many reluctantly voted for him even in the core North GEJ got over 200k Votes against PMB'S 500k in my state Jigawa in 2011.
Fast forward to 2015 Boko Haram had then grown to be the world's deadliest terrorist group, bombing even most sacred places and killing Islamic scholars like Albani et al; and all GEJ could do was to blame opposition that they were making his country ungovernable. THIS was the main reason GEJ was not voted in the north. He got less than 20k in the same state he got 200k in 2011.
Am not saying PMB is the best thing after fura da nono, because even I didn't vote for him in 2007 but for NOW he has no viable rival.
