NLC Should Forget About Salary Increment by dsenator(op): 2:01pm On May 22, 2016
It is a pity that once again the NLC has started agitating for an increment in the minimum wage from N9000 or thereabouts to N56,000.What a selfish decision!.Our NLC has failed consistently over the years to understand the meaning of labour congress,or if they do,they have been pretending not to know.
They have failed consistently to let the bricklayers, barbers, plumbers, commercial drivers, tire technicians and even the carpenters know that they are part and parcel of the labour Congress.
How would they explain to them that they are part of the Congress when 90% of their agitations has been on salary increment. How many of these artisans are collecting salary? This is why they go about their businesses any time a strike action is being called upon because they don't see themselves as part of labour Congress.
Where was NLC when the electricity supply was at zero level with a tormenting heat that we experienced in the nation in the last few months? where was NLC when the electricity tariffs were increased without a commensurate increase in supply?where was labour when policemen would be harassing innocent people endlessly?where was labour Congress when our elected representatives could not behave themselves at the national assembly as far as the budget is concerned?where was the labour Congress when our telecommunications providers regularly and nobody can stand for the people?
NLC should learn how to be considering the welfare of each person that constitute NLC and not just the salary earners.
What is there in N56,000 minimum wage that will now bring inflation again to the country. I still remember in the eighties when people were earning N120 monthly and they were able to do a lot more with it more than the thousands we are collecting now.
Few lolwords are enough for the wise.
