AlphaHandMaiden:

If you are in lagos i may know someone who has one she is no longer using. Let me ask if she still has it and if she wants to sell.

But i have to add the following:

Please, Please, Please be careful about used car seats as you can sometimes not guarantee how it has been previously used. For instance if it has been in an accident before it is more or less useless and should have been discarded and not be sold on. But one is not able to see any damage on these things sometimes by quickly looking at them.

Car seats are one of the few baby things that are advisable to buy new but i can understand that with twins and all cost can go up pretty quickly so if you can get a good and reliable source, by all means go a head, and get a used one but remember that the reason for a car seat is to safely carry a child in a vehicle.

So shine your eye and use microscope to inspect any that you are interested in well well, bear in mind the following:

●ask about the previous usage history especially if it has been in an accident before. Any accident! from ocada rider to trailer bashing! Even it being tumbled down a flight of stairs ( without a child in it i hope! ) In my opinion it is better to buy a pre-used carseat from the previous owner rather than a second hand shop as you will get more information as to how it was used.

●Check the manufacurers details, and google them for reviews before you go and inspect it.

●ask for the manual, this will ensure you can install it properly in the car, or how to remove the cover for washing etc. Although most good brands will have youtube how-tos online but a physical manual is still good.

●Check for any obvious signs of wear and tear - kindly ask them to remove the cover and check all the belts , clasps, fixings etc.

●Go preferably for the european or american brands or those made for those markets.... as the EU and US safety standards and test methods are by far better and more rigorous than the chinese for example. ( check the labels and stamps to see what test standards they use, it should be a number with either an EN or ASTM Prefix for EU or US products respectively.)

●Take a responsible other person with you to help you check it thoroughly.

●TAKE YOUR TIME and inspect it well.

Good luck
yes am in lag, I really want to buy new but its way above me that's why am asking here, 60k is above me now for car seats. My babies are underweight soam trying to pump dem with similacwhich costs me so much. Thanks sis

uote author=DrAda post=45852444] hehehe, kinda reminds me of how I got pregnant for my second child even without seeing my period. Play it safe, get one of the contraceptives. Personally, I wait for about a month for my body to settle after child both and then I visit my doctor to insert an iucd. Did it after my second child. Removed it 3 years later and got pregnant in a month. Gave birth to the third one and reinserted. It is still in me for almost 4 years. Planning to remove it soon since we are planning for another baby. [/quote]

If they are exactly 3 months, then there may be a need to increase their food intake because their weight is barely optimal and if nothing is done about it, they can become undernourished which we don't want.

Calculated their daily calorie needs at 150kcal/kg/day, and got about 120ml of breastmilk or infant Formula which should be given 3hrly in a day which amounts to 8 times in a day (this is just their minimum intake, it can be more). If you are breastfeeding, perhaps you consider expressing some milk. If you want to augment with infant Formula, fair enough.

Please never make the mistake of giving pap mixed with all kind of things. You will only worsen the issue. Don't want to promote my blog or anything but I am feeling too lazy and sick to paste links. Just right there on the main page, you will see why babies under 6 months should be given only milk and nothing else.

Also, are you stressed out? I can only imagine what you are going through taking care of twins. I have 3 kids and I swear my BP is rising. Just to let you know that stress can reduce the amount of breastmilk your body produces. Also, ur babies can feed off your stress. Just relax. Increase their milk feeds and frequency. They will be fine.

Thanks DrAda. What are the side effects of the one u are on now and what's the name pls?
I
@nita2013 and mzfunshy... The name of the iucd is the copper type. Don't actually know the company name for it. But because of my med history: Hypertension runs in our family and I got a breast lump removed during my school days plus multiple stories of weight gain from women who used the hormonal type, I knew that hormonal contraceptives will be a no go area for me.

For the iucd, copper type (there is also hormonal), the only side effect I had the first time I inserted it was vaginal bleeding for at least 2 months or so. Called my colleague and he laughed at me and told me it was nothing as some women bleed for close to 4 months, also considered normal. It was frightening I must admit but the fear of having yet another baby was much more effective. Moreover, I had no other option. Hubby might not want to try condoms and personally I consider condoms messy and disgusting. I waited it out and it stopped right at about the 2nd month.

Doing mind me and my life stories. Bottom line, just choose what works for your body and medical history.

Good evening lovely mothers in the house, what is your opinion on taking ampiclox to prevent jaundice. My LO is 3 days old and kicking fine. Mum just called and insisted on giving my precious LO ampiclox for 7 days. I disagree with her(though not to her face) as I believe it's too early to be loading a newborn with drugs when he's even breastfeeding as frequent as possible. My wife has checked for jaundice signs but all seems well. What's your opinion please

Jaudice is as a result of a build up of broken down excess red blood cells in the system which a new born liver cannot yet process, bear in mind that prior to birth all her blood was being filtered and processed through the umbilical cord by the mums body.

Ampiclox is an antibiotocs used to treat bacterial infections. Why would she want to load a child with such? Especially if there is no sign of infection.

It is the same liver that you dont want to cause jaundice that you want to put all the stress of processing the ampiclox?

If it is mild jaundice, any doctor will tell you all the child needs is a bit of sunlight, not even direct , even putting the baby by a window with ample daylight or a shaded balcony for like 15 -30 mins a day will clear it up in a couple of weeks.

If it is severe, you will need to go in to the hospital for UV therapy. Basically a more concentrated form of your diy sunlight home remedy. And they may have other medication and monitoring that may be required depending on severity.

It doesnt even seem that your LO has jaundice, or showing any signs and appears to be feeding fine so why medicate unnecessarily? What if the baby has an allergic reaction

People should be careful of abusing antibiotics as a lot of bacteria are getting resistant to the known drugs due to not taking the dosage correctly and every little thing..... antibiotics are prescribed or taken and new drugs are not being developed. ( at least none in like the last 10 years) You can google it to get more info.

Abeg tell her to her face that you disagree oh. Any prescribed medication may have side effects but the benefits of the drug on the ailment (in this case - none) should outweigh any possible side effects. Maybe you should google ampiclox for use in babies and side effects, I am sure a few scarry things will come up to help reset her decision.

actually neonatal ampiclox, the one for newly borns is used for neonatal jaundice but I think if jaundice is already present and in mild form. also to treat sepsis that may present alongside it. the reason its given,is just incase the parent is unable to detect the jaundice even in its mild form.
however, it's not compulsory to take it.
if the baby shows no sign of jaundice,no need. You can bare the baby under the sun for the shortest time possible. (but even this sunlight thing,I no understand am. I know it's to mimic phototherapy but I don't know if both are same. exposing a newborn to the sun is something I am not comfortable with )

I am just very practical, i dont like unnecesarry risk taking and one will start being in ninja mode afterwards.

I think the mimicing is the otherway round. cheesy
The Ultra violet(UV) rays in the phototherapy is also present in the sunlight naturally, higher in direct sunrays but also present in normal daylight even on an overcast day. Direct exposure to the brutal naija sun i dont think is adviceable , even for adults, make the pikin no go roast with sunburn. but even a brightly daylit area will work if you have a balcony that is somewhat shaded but well lit should be fine.

As with most things, it does take a while to clear up and the thought of not doing anything may sometimes make the parents feel they should be doing more ( i have been in that boat a few times). I guess going through the motions of given meds sometimes makes us parent feel we are in control.

Dont get me wrong: if any medication is prescribed by a doctor, by all means go ahead and give medication. But also monitor the baby's reaction as well.

What peevs me is that just because a few babies one knows may have had an ailment and used prescribed medication by their doctor does not mean one should automatically use the same meds especially when there is no symptoms.

Only banana seems to be purieed well with a fork for me.

Someone has already suggested a mash bowl.

There are baby food blenders which are essentually mini blenders.... and some can be quite pricey. I think they are an unneccesary gadget if you have other alternatives... save your money to use on other stuff.

What i found works for me is a hand held blender.... i got one few years back and its been gathering dust until now.... so glad i didnt throw it out!
I just put what needs to be blended in big high sided mug, add some water if needed and pop it in till u get the consistency i need.

Its a very versatile tool as you can also use it to blend other stuff as well other than baby food as well as blend quantities both tiny and large that a normal blender wont handle. I got mine to make oyinbo style soups in one of my culinary adventure modes grin

Oh! you can also try using the chopper attachment that comes with some blenders (the small bit we use to grind egusi/ogbono/ pepper at home) although it will need to be washed well to get any pepper or previous food residue out. You will need to add some water and blend in short bursts

Hope that helps! cheesy

I get. You are right.
Self medication is in itself a bad habit.
and oh yeaaa....that's true...the UV rays in the sunlight.
I think I have come across a research even, that showed sunlight is even more effective than phototherapy.
But since these ozone layer depletion, one does not know if the sun is helpful or harmful again. *Sigh*

sunlight before 10am is safer.
between 10am to 4pm is totally unhealthy

Mothers celebrate with me today as a add a year Today I celebrate ME! The birth of Me! The person I have grown to be! The person I will become! The sister, daughter, friend, girlfriend, employee; I am! and the Mother I am already. I celebrate Me today! I am grateful to God for the gift of life, I am void without him. Also thankful to my earthly parents for nurturing me into the graceful, lovely, and great woman I am today. Happy birthday to Me! I wish myself many more years of joy, love, laughter, health and prosperity. I wish myself strength and wisdom for days to come and success with everything I do today, and tomorrow! Here’s a drink to ME!
