When many hear about Ibadan, what they usually have in mind is a picture of a city flooded with only houses with rusted(brown) roofs. And that's all they believe Ibadan to be. But contrary to this belief, Ibadan does not only have houses with brown roofs. Ibadan is a beautiful city with formidable infrastructure. As a matter of fact, the area that is usually portrayed as having houses with brown roofs is Ibadan interior. It is only about two to three miles radius as circled in the Google map below. The area spans from Molete-Bode to Beere-Oje. This area actually carries most of Ibadan ancient histories and is still a very important part of Ibadan. The area is characterized by different hills. The popular Mapo hill is also located in this area ,and that is why one can see the roofs of the slum. these roofs have not always been brown, they were once shiny and as beautiful as they still are. However, despite the fact that this area carries a very important part of Ibadan's history, it is still a minute part when it comes to size. Those who usually make this hasty generalization are people who have not even been to Ibadan. and they are so married to this idea that, whenever they hear something contrary about Ibadan, they raise eyebrows and quickly go do Google search and download pictures of brown roofs to prove their point. Every city has it's slum and I can authoritatively say that Ibadan slum is very small compared to Lagos where you have slum flooding everywhere. from Ajegunle to Okomaiko. Oshodi to Mushin and others. but we still consider it the most developed city in Nigeria. why don't people make this generalization about other cities? That's because of hypocrisy and because people who live in Ibadan were not responding to this misinformation until recently. For those who still don't believe the beautiful pictures of Ibadan they see here should just come down to the city and see for themselves...see photos below and feel free to add yours. omo Ibadan kini soo?
