I need the police's side of the story. The rivalry btw the police and the army is everlasting. So I don't believe the story. It does not add up. What about rules of engagement. Why would the police not stop. Don't get me wrong the police is not particularly known for obeying the law. I believe we all know what an army check point looks like. It is impossible to run trough it. The case must be investigated.
If you're a frequent highway user then you should know not only speeding through checkpoint constitutes an offence. Refusal to stop, answering calls, moving even when you're not prompted to do so all constitutes offences. The profession of arms often require split seconds decision as life's previously precious. grin. That said, I don't think there's rules of engagement once the other party's armed. You only shoot at tires probably when you see recalcitrant motorists BUT not when you see gunmen in uniforms, unidentified. If it were you how would you have reactedhuh RIP to the dead, quick recovery to the wounded. God bless Nigerians

The policemen were wrong for not stopping, but can't the soldiers shot at the tyres to stop the vehicle. Many things could have been responsible for the "dangerous driving ", killing shouldn't be the only option for our soldiers .

My dear...if u eat this story just the way u av read it, that means u are not in this world...u don't know that there are two sides to any story. I laugh at how people chose the military part ..well, I know people don't like policement. Some one said the soldier who shot ran away and u still think it was an error! Well...I know police packages and retaliation na coded and under ground.
As for people saying why they no retaliate...well...I'm sure no be Mopol be those officers...they could be officers on a trip without guns. Not all officers travel wit guns.

Always remember...police get level. I think u dey see the faces of those wet dey follow ur politicians...shoot at them and blame ur self for whatsoever that happens to u. Or shoot at mopol men returning from north east and blame ur villagers
I am a Nigerian; I know there are two sides to a story and I do not hate policemen either cos I tried joining some years ago. Do you think its possible for a soldier to open fire on the vehicle if they stopped? Do you think the soldier would have stayed after he realised he had shot the wrong people? Some things cannot be explained but we must be security conscious at all times.

Soldiers deployed to a checkpoint along Bauchi to Jos road on Saturday shot in error, a bus conveying policemen travelling from Taraba to Kaduna.

Headquarters of the 33 Artillery Brigade in Bauchi confirmed the incident on Sunday, describing it as unfortunate.

Maj. Joseph Afolasade, Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 33 Artillery Brigade, said in a statement issued to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Bauchi, that the error was a result of the refusal of the driver of the bus to stop at the checkpoint for routine checks of occupants.

“The Headquarters 33 Artillery Brigade wishes to inform the general public that on 28th May 2016, at about 2:14pm, the troops deployed at Panshanu check-point along Bauchi-Jos road, opened fire on a bus.

“The bus drove dangerously through the checkpoint and refused to stop when flagged down on suspicion that it might be conveying terrorists or armed criminal elements, while approaching the check point.

Regrettably, one person died and 3 others sustained injuries in the process.

Preliminary investigation confirmed the identity of the occupants to be policemen who were in mufti coming from Taraba State to Kaduna for an interview.

“The Brigade urges all motorists, irrespective of status, to always obey the stop sign at all the check points to avoid reoccurrence of this unfortunate incident,” it said.

The Brigade urged member of the public to be conscious of the current situation in the country, especially the on-going operation in the North East to clear the remnants of Boko Haram terrorists from their hideouts.

“This is sufficient cause for all to abide by the rules at check points in the interest of all. The cooperation of the entire populace is necessary in the fight against insurgency and criminality,” it advised.

It however said the situation had been brought under control and the road, opened to traffic.

Policemen in mufti are indistinguishable from civilians. Civilians who speed past a checkpoint between 2 'hot' states are indistinguishable from criminals. No wonder they were shot at. Even their fellow policemen would have done the same. The most senior officer in the bus should be questioned. Very unfortunate though.

How are the police men suppose to know if they are truly an Nigeria army, they might think that they have lay ambush on them, depending on there mission. in the rate in which the boko haram and the militant disguise by putting on the Nigeria army uniform. Fear might be hard to differentiate between who is who. Rest in peace to the departed soul.

If I was d army dude. I would have gone for d tires. If the police decides to engage me. Then we can start killing people. U don't kill first and ask questions later. That is why the army said it happened by mistake. In weapon handling there is no such thing as mistake. In my opinion the story is not complete.

Very good my bro but you have just one life. It's foolish shooting at the tires when you see the man's equally armed as yourself. What stops him from engaging you while you're shooting at his tireshuh What guarantee do you have he won't miss you the first timehuh Dead men don't start shooting people I believe . What we fail to understand is that when arms and life's involved, there's little or no time to confirm in such situations. You're an honest man what makes you think the other man ishuh

How do you conclude that they did not stop for checking? Have you heard the police side of the story? I think there is more to it than the Army is saying.
