first thing first, I would like you to know that there are only 2(as for me) blog powering
brands in the world; WordPress and . While you can always get ur blog up and
running on any of both brands for free, I recommend you go with WORDPRESS,
because its more than just a blog tool. its a CMS, particularly as you intend to have
your own custom domain. Besides, Thats what 68% of websites are built on.... or can
over 5 million blogger be wrong?
That being said, all you have to do is to buy your custom domain name wherever you
want to buy it, and get a share hosting(cos its cheaper) from any hosting company of
your choice. Just because they call it shared hosting doesn't mean somebody will be
dragging your site with you. lol. Its yours and yours only; although you might encounter
problems with the bandwidth. Its not something u can't handle.

I can tell that you are so concerned about your google AdSense. not to worry,
WordPress has gazzilions of plugins to help u out with virtually anything and they are

DomainKingTeam:
Hi,
Thank you for your interest in registering your domain name for your blog with us.

Please read the following answers of your questions:
1.) If you want to convert your .com blog to your custom .com domain then you then you don't need to buy any hosting plan for this. You just need to register a domain name. Once your domain name is registered you can use our free DNS service to link your custom domain with your .com blog or you can also ask us to integrate it for you.

2) No it is hosted by Google. If you only buy your domain name to link to your .com, then your blog is hosted by Google. And it is not self hosted. Self hosted generally means that you have your own hosting that you have bought from a hosting provider.

3) Your blog will still be hosted on Google. Only your domain name will change from .com to your own .com. All your content of your website and your ads and everything else will remain the same. So in simple words, your blogspost.com blog will change to .com blog and everything else will all be the same. And your website will still be powered by Google.

4) Yes, you just need to register a domain name if you want to change your .com blog to custom .com domain. There is nothing else that is required. You can register your domain from here: http://www.domainking.ng/domain-registration/

For registering your domain name this guide will be helpful for you: http://www.domainking.ng/articles/how-to-register-your-domain-name/

Once your domain is registered you can contact our support and we will help and guide you with all the integration process.

5) Please note that Google .com blog linked with custom .com, .ng etc. domain name is hosted by Google. Self hosted simply means a website hosted that is hosted on your own hosting that you have bought from any hosting provider.

So for example if you have bought hosting plan to host your simple HTML website, then it is self hosted as you have bought your own hosting for your website.

And similarly if you have a .com blog then it is hosted by Google Blogger. If you have a blog, then it is hosted by

I would like to clarify once again that a blog is hosted by Google on their servers. And even after you have linked your .com blog to your custom domain your blog will still be hosted by Google. You will use the same blogger.com interface to post your blog posts, your ads will be the same, your template will be the same . Everything will remain the same but only your domain name will change from .com to your .com domain.

I hope I have clarified all your queries.

Feel free to contact us if you have any further queries.

Best Regards,
Karan

Hello,

I don't understand the "transfer" part. Does this mean I'll have to pay to have by wordpress domain transferred to the new domain name purchased from you?

kindly elaborate. Thanks.

Hi,
Do you mean that you want to transfer/change your blog domain to your own custom .com domain?

There are 2 ways to change your domain to a custom domain:

1) The first method is to simply register your domain name & keep your website hosted with .

You can register a domain name with us and link that domain to your blog. In this you only need to register your domain name. If you want to register a domain then you can register from here: http://www.domainking.ng/domain-registration/

After you have registered your domain, you need to enter the nameservers of & link your domain to your wWordpress.com blog.

For linking your blog with custom domain you need to use the nameservers given to you by WordPress. But please note that 's DNS service is paid & they charge $13/year for using their nameservers. And this fees is paid directly to . By doing this your website will remain hosted with .

You can read more here: https://en.support./map-existing-domain/

2) Or the other method to move from to your own .com domain is to buy your own web hosting & move to self hosted Wordpress.

All our hosting plans support WordPress, so you can easily install Wordpress on our hosting plans using one click installer provided in the cPanel. Or If you are not able to install it by yourself, you can also ask us to install it for you.

Once your installation is done you can then migrate/move all your data from blog to your own hosted Wordpress website with us. We will help you with migration process.

For getting your own hosted Wordpress blog, you can start by registering your domain name and hosting plan. If you want to register a domain then you can register from here: http://www.domainking.ng/domain-registration/

For our Hosting plans, you can visit: http://www.domainking.ng/web-hosting/

Currently we are offering Upto 30% OFF on our hosting plans with free .com.ng domain with all our hosting plans except with our Civilian hosting plan. And you can easily start your Wordpress blog on all our hosting plans as already explained.

I hope I have clarified all your doubts.

MrMystique:
What's the Difference between A forum and A blog? What do I need to start a Forum, an Educational one Sir, Thanks in Advance.
Hi,
Please note that a forum is simply a discussion website where users can signup and start any topic. And users of that forum can discuss or debate on any topic. The content of a forum is mostly generated by the users of that forum than the actual admin of the forum.

The best example of a forum is Nairaland where you can create/start any topic & the users of Nairaland can join the discussion & debate on that topic. And almost all the content on Nairaland is created by the users of Nairaland.

Blog is a website that is started by a person (normally the owner/admin of that blog) to post their views & opinion on any topics that they have on their mind. Generally the blogs are updated regularly by the blog owners or their authors. So all the content is generated by the owner or their authors.

The best example for a blog is lindaikejisblog.com. That blog is a blog covering news & entertainment related topics in Nigeria. All the content on this blog is posted by Linda Ijkeki (the owner/admin in this example) or her authors. So the content is mostly created by the admin. And users or visitor to the blog can read any blog post & comment on them for interaction.

If you want to to start a educational forum then you simply need to register your domain name for the forum and buy web hosting to host your forum.

If you want to register your domain name you can register it from here: http://www.domainking.ng/domain-registration/

If you want to buy hosting plan for your website, you can buy it from here: http://www.domainking.ng/web-hosting/

Currently we are offering upto 30% discounts on our hosting plans & free .com.ng domain with all our hosting plans except Civilian plan. So if you will buy any of our hosting plan then you will get both the domain name & hosting to start your website.

======================
How to start your Education Forum
======================
Once your domain name & hosting is active, you can easily start your forum website by installing any free forum CMS software like SMF (Simple Machines Forum), phpbb or Vbulliten (they have paid versions) to start your forum website. Or you can also ask us to install any of the softwares for you depending on your hosting on your preference.

By using these softwares you can start your website without much help of a designer or developer. You can also read more here: http://www.wikihow.com/Start-a-Forum

I see that DomainKingTeam https://www.nairaland.com/3134858/still-need-clarifications-dont-understand#46113169 has explained most of the issues raised, I would like to explain no. 3 specifically, and then go on to explain a general thing about blogs from the blogger and wordpress perspective.

To answer your question 3, Yes, google will still display ads on your blog if you buy a domain name from someone else. Google will not penalize you if you bought your domain name elsewhere to personalize your blog, your blog runs 100% with everything .com offers, the only thing that changed is the domain name. If you chose to use wordpress, you can still easily display your google adsense ads on your blog.

On the issue of Google vs WordPress hosting, i want to clarify something. If you want simplicity and "no stress" blog, .com seems to be a quick one. If you are thinking about the future, however, and your future needs might include running a more powerful blog where you have more control, for instance you want to transform from a simple blog to a more powerful news site like CNN, you want more control over how pages are displayed, you want more control and want to transform your website into a community website where people can register and also post their own news and engage more etc, WordPress brings out more complexity and its much more powerful for bigger projects than , and yes, you can also display your google adsense ads on your wordpress website very easily. Things will continue to evolve and might change in the future though.

I have to mention that you can also host your wordpress website on almost any webhost out there, wordpress.org does not require you to host it only in one place. Wordpress is a powerful software and takes a bit of learning to understand and use, but there are tons of materials out there, and webhosting companies can also help you start it up with no experience necessary.

So i decided to mention these because i thought your knowledge about wordpress vs was somewhat limited

ps: You also mentioned "theme" and "template", depending on the context, they mean the same thing, just called differently depending on what software you're using. Its like saying "basement" and "underground" in different countries

Like Karan said - simply put:
Blog: Your opinion for others to see and comment on and you really don't care as it is solely your opinion, factual or not.

Forum: A community based platform for anyone to curate their own topics.
Forums are driven by numbers/members, a more dedicated set of users who unknowing build a large knowledge base of information. It could be rubbish( like some threads on nairaland) and it could be useful/factual( like a lot of threads on nairaland)

How can a blog be monetized?
Just run your blog for 2 weeks, you will be eligible to apply for Google AdSense.
When you get Google AdSense, Google Will start placing ads on your blog and you will start making money

Hi,
Thank you for your interest in registering your domain name for your blog with us.

Please read the following answers of your questions:

Ha.
Let's see if I got the concept right.
Having a self hosted blog means buying a custom domain and a HOSTING plan (eg, from DomainKing @4k). Also means having total control of you blog. Like, you can decide what ad displays and not. Correct?

I understand "template" and "theme" might mean the same, but I think they serve the same purpose BUT on different platforms. Templates for , and theme for WordPress (I think I'm sure of that one).

What I need is this. I want to start my own blog. I want it NOT ON WORDPRESS.. And I want to own it completely, not share any part with google. Using a "template", not a "theme". Dunno if it is called self hosted. I just want to have total control.
So i mentioned that because anyone reading your post would think that "template" is more superior to "theme" or something. I just wanted you to know that they are used differently on different platforms but they basically mean the same thing. Its like saying "i wanna build a basement not an underground". In Nigeria we say "underground", in the US for instance, they say "basement" which is the same.
