President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday approved several actions to fast-track the long delayed implementation of the United Nations Environmental Programme Report on the environmental restoration of Ogoniland.
The actions approved by President Buhari, based on recommendations to him by the Executive Director of UNEP, the UNEP Special Representative for Ogoniland, permanent secretaries of the Federal Ministries of Environment and Petroleum Resources, and others, include the amendment of the official gazette establishing the Hydrocarbon
Pollution Restoration Project (HYPREP) to reflect a new governance framework comprising a Governing Council, a Board of Trustees and Project Management.
Mr. Buhari also approved that the HYPREP Governing Council should be composed of representatives of the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, Federal Ministry of Environment, impacted states, oil companies and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, representatives from Ogoniland, representatives from the United Nations System.
He also approved the composition of a Board of Trustees for the HYPREP Trust Fund.
Following a meeting held on the directive of the president, it was also agreed that a contribution deposit of $10 million (N2 billion) will be made by stakeholders within 30 days of the appointment of members of the Board of Trustees for the Trust Fund, who will be responsible for collecting and managing funds from contributors and donors.
A new implementation template has also been evolved at the instance of President Buhari, and the environmental clean-up of Ogoniland will commence in earnest with the President’s inauguration of the HYPREP Governing Council and the Board of Trustees for the Trust Fund.

It's actually going to span over 25 years going by the United Nations report, but despite the failures of southern leaders over the years (especially the ineffectual buffoon), President Buhari is entering the history books as the first one to approve and oversee the implementation of the report.

That just goes to show the long term environmental effects that oil pollution could have, yet some brain dead Ijaw criminals are blowing up pipelines and messing up their ecosystem, thereby investing in another 30 years of suffering for their people.

Kudos PMB.

Confirm 30years ..NOTE: it wouldn't have gotten to this if past leader cleaned the area during there tenure...only in Nigeria that every administration has to start from beginning in all sectors

our leaders!,we all know they were all retardds from 1960 onward...none of them was realy that good...

all sane nijerians know that fact.....

we should encourage them to be better than this,by educating ourselves too.......if they can not get away with a lie no more, they would have to work harder to get our favour(votes).......make it harder for them....check-mate....

the change-agents have to be the criticizers of the goverment, nottttttttttt wailers.....

wailers are rubbish-people!!!..

Assuming thay I am an Ogoni or Ijaw man (God forbid), I will never step on, work in or have anything to do in any section of our land that is cleaned by a Fulani man. What an insult, if my brother, our great hero Chief (Dr) Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan, the jesus of our time cannot clean our land for good bad years that he was president, then I will remain in my oil polluted land and continue to live in filth and dirt rather than for an illiterate Fulani man to clean my polluted land. May God not let us eat from our enemies. That is how a true son of his father will behave. But, is there any true son of the father in Ogoni/Ijaw land, I seriously doubt it.
