tdayof:To start off with the S-400 is a heavy hitter with very long reach, while the patriot has a shorter engagement range. The S-400 is highly flexible when it comes to engagement ranges. The system uses multiple types of interceptors based on the targets range using the insane 40N6 (~ 400 kms) interceptors you mentioned to bring down its target: The patriot has a single type of interceptor (~150 kms range against aircrafts) for all types of targets, this approach has its own advantages and disadvantages. But suits the US / NATO and the other users just fine. But when it comes to detection and engagement ranges, the S-400 will probably detect, track and fire at a bogey long before the Patriot can even see it clearly. The reality is that we are still jokers and cant even compare with Libya before Nato invasion in terms of air defense. Our Air Force is under equipped and many of us laugh when they brag that 2 Alpha jets have been deployed to the Niger Delta to track and engage militants. When did Alpha jet fighters become surveillance aircraft or they think everyone in Nigeria can fall for propaganda? |

GeneralShepherd:This is very ignorant of you, Buhari has bought many batches of equipment since he came into office. He has also ensured that all equipment ordered by the Jonathan regime are delivered accurately as per contract terms. Always fingers out the truth. As for these vehicles, it is a mistake to have bought them as a component of base defence. We should have modified a locally assembled vehicle and asked the company to rig it up with the same equipment that receive the signals from control rooms when the Base defence CCTV detect intruders |

This acquisition makes no sense at all. Agreed vehicles are required for airbase defense, but we already have vehicles that would've easily done the job providing necessary mobility, firepower, and even protection for the Airforce Regiment. Examples is the upgraded/upgunned toyota landcruiser already in use by the Army, the Landrover , and even the new Profseries armoWMIKProforPFured vehicles/APCs. Purchasing these Polish vehicles simply isnt it and this may cause logistical headaches later on. |

Adminisher:Correction: These scorpions are the FIRST vehicles/equipments purchased by the Buhari administration. With the exception of the 12 MRAPs donated by the American Army, EVERY new equipment/weapons currently in use from firearms (Beryl rifles, Tavor TAR 21s, Galil Aces, FN FS2000s, FN P90s, etc) to vehicles (REVA Mraps, Bigfoots, T72A1 and M1 series MBTs, BTRs, Streit Spartans MK2s and 3s, Toyota Landcruisers, BVPs, etc), aircrafts (new Mi-35M, Mi-24, Augusta 109s, repaired C-130s and G-333s, the Maritime Recon ATR-48, 2 Alphajets E, Army Air Corps Gazelle Scout helos, and the E-125s, etc) and drones (UAVs and UCAVs) where ALL PURCHASED AND DELIVERED under GEJ's watch, NOT Buhari. STICK TO THE TRUTH. |

ocelot2006:Very very wrong. In between payment and receipt of some of these arms, there were periods of serious shortfall that the Buhari government had to intervene. The supplementary budge5 of 2015 was done to pay for these. In any case all these weapons you listed are not up to 150million dollars and GEJ spent at least 10 billion on defence and security in three years, where is all the money gone? |

Adminisher:Apart from equipment/weapon platforms, did you equally factor in the training courses from the basics to tactical? You do know that running a counter insurgency operation is capital intensive, right? In case you doubt that do feel free to ask the Americans, British, Indians, Pakistanis, and even the Sri Lankan? And please do tell how Buhari "intervened" to pay for weapons that arrived LONG before he became president. Please do tell. |
