Before you tongue-lash, criticise, curse or even frown at my topic please read every letter of this post. It is no longer news that Eksu has been in complete black out for over a year now (1 year and 3 months precisely), one may wonder what could be the cause of this but the answers to the questions are not far-fetched. I am only writing this to show my grieviance and how disappointed i am in some people. The students of Eksu have totally conceeded defeat over the blackout as they also do not believe nothing can be done to restore electricity back to the students' area. I could remeber vividly well around November last year, a certain committee rose to the cry of the students and tried to reach every hostel in order to brief them about their meetings with the so-called Benin Electricity Distribution Company, thanks goodness an agreement was reached and each "hostel" was to contribute a certain amount. The response was somehow encouraging but no result was achieved. Let me remind you of the last protest that took place at the school due to the N5,000 illegal fees implemented by the then Vice Chancellor Prof. Dipo Aina, it was chipped in by one of the protesters that we have no light in Eksu and the governor's response was that NEPA has been privatised although he will help in his own little way. The governor did not just make a promise but also tried to fufil to some extent. Proof: The students' area was not the only part experiencing blackout before the protest, communities like Ifaki, Iworoko, Are and Afao were also not left out. 2 weeks after the governor's promise Afao and Are were lit up followed by Ifaki and Iworoko coming last. What about the students' area? It was this action that aroused the committee i mentioned earlier, the report they brought was that our section from their office had big damages that requies about N2Million to fix which prompted the contributions in the first place. The BEDC themselves on two different ocassions have paraded the students' area twice promising to restore electricity and even their most recent action was around January or thereabout when they took the house numbering exercise which also did not yield any result. I haven't called on the SUG or anybody to work on the electricity issue we are facing here in Eksu but the question i'm asking is why is anybody not saying anything about it whereas we hard sometime ago in OAU there was no light for three days and the school was almost shut down. I also eavesdropped that Engr. China had the intention of leading the students to a protest to Governor's office to charge their phones, lamps and laptops to show their discontent about the blackout. We only heard, we haven't seen. I haven't lost confidence in the prodigy-led administration but i want the current SUG to open their eyes and see that every hostel with light in Eksu has a Generator somewhere and open their ears to the noise of generators in Eksu. |

Graduated from EKSU, though in the days when it was still UNAD, and darkness was a normal thing. |

Hebunn:This one is now totally unbearable for over a year, no light. Anyways they've been able to restore light to the school gate area. Only Satellite, Phase II and Osekita left. |
