As much as it is a fraud, I don't see any reason why I should dump my former phone for a new one without at least a good reason.

I have had an iPhone 6+ (a gift) for more than 9months now. I left it packed. Since I got it, does not pick network. So, I took it to some guys in computer village. They told me to bring 30k to update the software, so I can use it in Nigeria.

I just laughed and went to keep it in my wardrobe.

Why should I use all that money to work on the phone when I have a samsung galaxy that is in PERFECT condition? Good battery life and other things. And a steady nokia phone, for my second sim.

I don't like such wastage.

And you bought the iPhone even when you had others.

so you actually expect baba rashidi earning somewhere between 15k to 18k per month from his security job to afford an S5 of over 100k, please be realistic here.

I believe OP was talking about quality? If Nokia has a very good brand that I can buy for #15k and it is solid and doing what it is built to do efgiciently and they have another I can buy for #150k with better options and all what not(which justifies the difference in price) and it is solid, if I can afford the #15k one and enjoy it well isn't it enough? Why should I spend the #15k and still find that it was just a box of shii?

Konga is guilty of this... I remember when I got spark tablet from them... Thank God the one I got was good as others complain of different problems. Sold it and the person is on my neck to get the screen replacement after he broke it angry... The worst is that konga don't even care to offer any after sale service on most of these products.

Op I disagree with you in some cases, you forget the main reasons why you find this products on koga and jumia is because they sell quickly because they are cheap. I have sold phones before and I can tell you Nigerian are friend's with chinko products. They leave the likes of Samsung and HTC and ask you for phones like malata, omata etc and you wonder how stupid they are. You preach heaven and earth to make them change their minds but at the end they want a cheap phone. I once sold an itel android phone for 5k and the customer came complaining all the time and inside me I was like it serves you right, I remember how I advised her not to buy that phone even though I was the person selling but she refused to listen and learnt the hard way. If SON stop the influx of these devices Nigerians will fight them and say they left expensive phones in the market for the poor masses to buy.

the illiteracy and corrupt stupidity of the NCC & SON are the main reason we see these rubbish..people saying ''U AINT FORCED'' are still those lacking knowledge about smart phones,...people saying ''LETS MANUFACTURE'' d@t would be a gud ideal as many tech engineers and youths would be employed,..but come on,, there are many countries d@t dont even manufacture phones and yet still gets better phones that match the taste of their techs and buyers...these chineese O.E.M are not even recognised in their coun3,.have u ever wondered why tecno sold mostly in africa?..its because we are ignorant and not ready to learn,.and these manufacturers discovered this weak point and used it to their advantage..am not saying we should just empty our wallet just 4 an iphone or samsung s7,..but @least what we are buyin should be something of value for our money.if u can rem..tecno and other chiness brand (in its category) dont even upgrade untill recently.probably its because they think africans dont mind..just immagine [/b]

A case where phone makers deliberate set out to rip off the wallet of Nigerians with juicy marketing, only to make a U-turn and do what they ought to do in the first instance. What do I mean? Now, I have seen a couple of phone makers make a certain phone with 1GB RAM, and then 3-months later, they release the same phone with 2GB RAM and add appellations like “Plus, Max, Pro” at the end of the original name. These OEM’s have no “trade-in” policy, they deliberately want Nigerians to dump their new phone and purchase the same phone with a re-branded name. Ouch!

For other phone makers, they make the two variant, 1GB RAM and 2GB RAM, release only the 1GB version in Nigeria and send the two 2GB version to Kenya and UAE because those countries have a government – This is fraud!

The United States has a regulatory body called FCC that checks the quality and authenticity of phones coming into their country. Even the highly rated Xaiomi had a tough time entry the U.S market because of the standards the Chinese OEM had to meet.

Over here in Nigeria, the Standard Organization of Nigeria and NCC allows anything into Nigeria, as if our dear country is dumping ground for some of these phones that should be destroyed at the shores of Nigeria.

I earlier decried the so-called Yezz Mobile Jumia wanted to flood into the market, I am glad the brand was dead on arrival. There are other OEM’s who have established their brand in Nigeria, but now take us for granted with their bizarre business policy – This is fraud, it is dumb and delusional.

It’s even more disheartening that some OEM’s create phones without parts and accessories. They don’t want to offer repair services even when they know their stuff is inferior, they want you to keep buying the same sh!t with the money they don’t deserve.

I don't see how what you described above is fraud.

If a manufacturer releases a 2GB version of a phone you earlier bought with 1GB, doe that make your phone useles?

Does the extra 1GB in the new version remove any features from your current version? You have the option to buy or to be happy with your current phone.

A lot of Nigerians are just too sentimental for my liking.

This is a non issue. It is written there 1G RAM. Stick with the 2nd RAM phones. Don't buy if d specifications don't meet ur need. If d price is equivalent as in other countries, then no 1 has defrauded you. D 1G RAM comes into d country because dat is wat some of us can afford. If u can afford better insist and buy better.

and is baba rashidi going to enjoy the android experience on the Nokia. as much as we all want to scream quality and warranty and all other corporate jargon, we have to be grateful at least to these chinese for bringing the expensive to the common man. There was a time cowbell was the laughing stock of the diary market when they rolled out sachet milk; but today, it turned out not to be less quality, small, non nutritious milk, but what every milk producer does today.

uve got it wrong sir,...SON is not soppose to pursue them just like d@t but let them know that these below par products should be upgradable to the taste of consumers.and even if SON pursued dem, other brands would come (with consumers taste @ the back of their minds). I sincerly think they are not doing their work or they are illiterates to tech...

The only situation I agree with the Op which he didn't even mention are in cases where these products are cloned and sold in Nigeria. For example we all know Nokia touch is a common man phone with excellent battery life. But if you go to top dealers in the market to buy it, it sells around 7k now because of the present dollar hike. So a security man who earns 10k monthly will simply pretend he didn't see those big shops and go to the road side seller screaming original Nokia phone 1,500 and buy from him. Two weeks later the phone is dead then he comes here to shout Nigerian is a dumping ground.
