Senegal is much better than the North today. Life expectancy and literacy levels in the North are amongst the worst in the world.

Without Niger Delta oil the North would resemble the Central African Republic.
U that owns it, how developed is ur region

How are you sure Senegal is better than the north.
Senegal doesn't deal with the nonsensical Islamic violence that flares up in the North. People talk about Boko Haram as if it were an anomaly, the fact is that violence in the North is part of the culture.

Maternal death rates are higher in the North. Fistula is more prevalent in North. And the North only just now dealt with polio - one of only three countries still battling the disease in 2014 (along with Pakistan and Afghanistan).

9,000MT for how many farmers. We need to improve on the average of 13kg/Hec to the recommended 200kg/hec in Nigeria
While I commend the effort of the government at this, they need to do more. And over time, they need to hands off from this
kind of scheme because that distorts the market. These schemes are not sustainable in the long run. The private sector should be
allowed to run the show while the government provides infrastructure.

Finally, most of the beneficiaries of this subsidy are in the urban or peri-urban areas while the really poor Small holder farmers
who are in the rural area/hinterlands cant get them. And again, the fertilizer goes to political loyalists.

We can now see why the north doesn't want to let go of Niger delta oil, even their so called agriculture is HEAVILY dependent on oil money.

Building and maintenance of irrigation dams - oil money.
Provision of subsidised fertilizers - oil money.
Provision of machineries - oil money.
Distribution of improved seedlings - oil money.
Financial grants and loans to farmers - oil money.

The north will just be another Senegal or Niger republic without oil money to sustain its agriculture
Have you forgotten that all the refineries is built with agricultural money.. My brother retink...

Bayelsa has the capacity to feed Nigeria with RICE and PLANTAIN why don't they use there own oil well to do dat
And don't tell me ur land us polluted because not upto 2% of farm lands are polluted

Envy ans laziness is the problem of the typical Ijaw man
Akwa-Ibom has far more oil than bayelsa and Rivers yet they farm
Aniomas have more oil than ijaws, yet they farm.. . Don't look for excuse go and work

jonhemma11:
Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal and Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Saad Abubakar Tuesday flagged off sales of fertilizer for 2016 cropping season in Sokoto state.

Speaking at the event, which took place at Silami LGA, Tambuwal announced that the state government has subsidized the cost of commodity by 70 percent to enable farmers enhance production.

He said the government has procured three types of fertilizers which include Urea, NPK and SSP brands.

“This year, Urea brand, bought by the government at N6859, will be sold to farmers at the price of N2,300; NPK, which was procured at the cost N6,400, will be sold at the rate of N2,200 while SSP, also bought at the rate of N6,400, will be sold to our farmers at the rate of N2,100,” the Governor said.

Tambuwal added that is administration would not relent on efforts to improve agriculture.

According to him, government has also procured 19,620 bags of rice seeds of 50kg size to be distributed to rice farmers for the 2016 wet and dry season farming.

“In the same vein, certified seeds of onions and lettuce have been sourced for distribution to vegetable farmers in Goronyo, Rabah, Wurno, Kware, Tambuwal, Wamakko, Silame, Kebbe, Sokoto North and Shagari LGAs,” he added.

Tambuwal said government will continue to explore avenues to enhance water management especially for the two major dams in the state, in order to mitigate flooding and its negative consequences, and at the same time improve wet and dry season farming.

About 9,000 metric tones of fertilizer was procured by the government for the 2016 cropping season.

What has the ND done with its 13% derivation and other allocations/interventionist finances?

Everyone is given an allocation. If one governor chooses to buy fertilizer with his, and another chooses to buy champagne and sponsor militants with his, who's to blame?

You have chosen to protect your criminal leaders instead of asking them to account for your looted commonwealth, because you said they buried the oil there so they are allowed to loot any proceeds from it.

You think Tambuwal could not have also easily diverted those funds? You can choose to keep playing victim instead of taking action.

demarc001:
See sentiment! This exactly is what the complain is, you use money generated from the Niger delta resource (oil) to buy fertilizer for the north to do their own resource (agriculture) which the proceed go to their private pocket and not federal government account.
Where is fairness in this?

and u are aware 1 barrel of oil can purchase as much agricultural produce u need.
And just 1 bag of rice can purchase as many litres of fuel I need.

If there is crisis, I can drink my milk and eat my rice. Can you drink your oil?

In fact at the rate the oil price is sinking, you will be needing a lot more oil to pay for my agricultural produce so you better sit up.

Ok

Did Senegal or Niger have ever come to Nigeria begging for food?
Everyone needs one another to survive, can you eat your oil? Niger Delta can not survive alone without food, north can survive without oil with the abundant of food at their disposal
Google Saudi Arabia food ish, they import everything including water, a litre of water is costlier than a liter of petrol in Saudi, so they give out oil in exchange of food, they can survive without food but their suppliers can survive without (their) oil .
...so we need one anorher
please stop south we got good land with enough raining season north is desert with out goverment support north can not farm, northerners sell thier farm products and put the money in thier pockets tomorrow they will tell u they re feeding nigerians as if we dont pay for it,is just like igbo people saying nigerians should thank them for selling spare part to nigerian ,so abooki people re the one gaining in this so called nigeria angry angry angry angry

Its too late. The south are too lazy to work

Quakertellicus1:
How about we Southerners with all that education who use oil money to just import...instead of making more money by spending more on industrial development.? And innovation.

We may own the oil money...but we are no better than the North when it comes to using it. And we even drive away the investors by our mindless blowing up of pipelines.

Time we in the South....and the North too....grew out of resource dependency.....and took the hard road to self reliant innovative economics.

Modified: With all that oil money we should have dozens of industries in the South making things from oil rigs to android phones. Instead...we just use the oil money to import. Even if we had total control of the oil money....we would just waste it importing and importing.

My point eventually is that Nigeria can be more prosperous if we became industrial. That would enable us to export things whose prices we can control to our advantage....and spend less on imports....meaning that we do not have to worry about how much foreign exchange we have in the savings.

Oga so north has automatically become a developed place now abi? So you did not see all the killers & bombers being bred there abi?
All you people care is to condem Niger Delta in everything, how many people has the Niger Deltans killed? How does this thread in the first place concern Niger Delta? With the rate of poverty in the North compare to Niger Delta with all the killing skills in their blood who is suppose to Mob their leaders first? Their stupid leaders give them fertilizer to farm but discourage them from education, who is worse?

Niger Delta is useless yet you people won't sleep without dreaming of them. Go carry you Jihad job jorr

Agriculture have feed and provide income to ppl for thousands of years, oil is the new comer and Nigerian current oil reserves would finish in less than 50yrs, I pity the south south bombing their lands, not investing in education and technology, marketing or production, but are lazily (most ijaws are according to Dickson) depending on oil which is finite as all natural resources are

They have started again with fertilizer subsidy (scam) a process which the previous administration did everything to sanitize they have now placed it back in the hands of those that are desperately looking for it! Nigerians when will we learn?

Down here in south-south, our governors since 1999 collected 13 percent of monthly income from oil before been shared to the three tiers of government and four states namely Rivers, Akwa-ibom, Delta and Bayelsea are among the top five highest states receiving allocation from FG when shared among states goverment and couple with agencies like NNDC, ministry of niger-delta affairs and the Amnesty programme. How come our region is still not developed, abi does who have manned this offices are northerners. What I see is corruption on the path of our leaders and not also forgeting we had a president for about 5 years within this period.

Error!! Without oil money. The cost of all the items you stated would be incorporated into the agricultural products. That means you would pay exceedingly more for your pepper, tomato, beans, yam, onions, vegetables, etc. Therefore, government more or less is not just subsidizing the farmers, but the consumers as well. Even the American government subsidizes agriculture to provide cheap food to consumers.

If Nigeria breaks up, mark my words: the North can never suffer. It will only make the North take farming more seriously. Agriculture is everything. Even the oil is an exhaustible/limited resource. Common tomato scarcity and we're all lamenting down south like the world is about to end.
