Yeah, 2 more facilities will do just fine, while in the long run its necessary to install/build this facility in every State of the Federation.
Even if only 2 of such facilities are built per geo-political zone (12 in total), that would be more than enough for the country.

But, maintenance would have to be round the clock if the investment is not to be considered as a waste.

Forensics Lab Kwa!

No wahala.

But where is the forensics database you will be testing against?

Abi Naija don get my DNA for database? undecided
Forensics is not limited to DNA. Did they capture your biometrics when you registered for BVN, GSM registration, Int'l passport, Voter's Card or Drivers licence? Then, your fingerprints is supposedly on some database. That can go a long way in solving some crimes.

Hopefully, they can maintain this and spread it to all states.

This news doesn't excite me.
Of what use are all these when we don't have a database for all Nigerians living in this country?
What will they be matching the evidence collected @ crime scenes against?
This is like putting the cart before the horse!

Hmmmm, with so much corruption in the Police force, l hope those that will manage / operate the computerized machines will not be compromised to give fake forensic reports as soon as money change hands, l can imagine a high profile crime and those in the forensic department are given 100 Million Naira , they will produce / alter whatever report they will give, l dont trust Nigerian Police cool

How can they utilize it?Besides the police don't have maintenance culture.
That will enhance their performance towards getting more egunje.

Good development.

First tag and keep evidence- Have you ever noticed how every criminal caught has the same type of gun and bullets laid out as evidence?

Please gun control is key- I heard rumour once that a white visitor to Nigeria brought along a gun. How that passed immigration, custom, airport or ports is beyond me but if he uses that gun to kill, how do you track it ( I'm yet to see a white criminal paraded)

I pray the police force will get a sound leader that can revamp it because the major part of detecting modern crime is forensics and use of technology.

I think a national census with biometric capture is finally in the offing. Fashola alluded to that when he commissioned the launch of prepaid meters in Kano.

In the face of the need for proper fiscal planning, social intervention, crime, austerity measures, tax fraud and corruption, to mention a few, the advantages of a national database cannot be over-emphasised.

I laugh when people say they don't have database for matching, I totally disagree, most data creating agencies, like network providers mtn, glo, etisalat, inec and censor agency supply them datas, which they employ to achieve results. There is hardly a nigerian today who don't have their profile/info with a network provider, unless you're not a phone user. To say there are challenges, there no doubting that, but to question this step taken, will only present such people as enemies of the state. It is indeed a step in right direction.

That is just a dream and not a reality with the kind of officers they have. They only needed to improve their pocket to the detriment of those who pay them=Tax Payers.A situation you will be asked to sign a written statement under duress?I dey laugh.
