now, you see ya sef?
Truth is, Kazeem isnt to share all the blame.
1. Learning auto repairs is an expensive procedure,
2. Buying 21st century auto diagnostics and fixing tools are very expensive. Do you know a diagnosis tool can go as high as 3m?
3. The govt, well meaning nigerians, and private institutions arent ready to set up auto learning centres.
4. Parts sold here are mostly used, substandard parts.
5. Most car owners would rather shy away from genuine OEM parts when available and compare it to their income, price of fake substandard parts, they also try to encourage the technician to cut corners in fixing a problem such as removal of thermostat, connection of fan directly, adjust throttle pedal and idle speed valve to compensate for rough idle or even dead maf.
6. Most cars entering the country and being driven in the roads are salvaged, and you know what it means buying running and fixing a salvaged vehicle (especially accident, flood or fire salvaged)
7. When a technician does a great job the right way, most customers dont encourage them by paying well.
8. Some mechanics dont wish to learn new things.

As crude as the Kazeem is, he's all we ve got.

He learns by trial and error, but still delivers however crude.

I respect the kazeem , you find them everywhere, even coscharis and kia employ kazeems.

they just give them uniforms and overalls, and help them polish their English.

Most Nigerian car owners are mentally lazy when it comes to car repairs, they dont want to get their hands dirty.

I dont see why someone will build a mansion and park 50 cars inside and wont invest in a small garage workshop with pit inside. angry

If you can be appreciating somebody that use trial and error to resolve problem in this 21st century in a open forum like this then I will have to concur that there is no hope for science and technology advancement in this country again .This is indeed a lost generation !!!!

Kazeems most times have a wider knowledge than those Coscharis, Briscoe, CFAO boys. They learn by trial and error and sometimes miraculously get it (just pray they don't create another problem).

I wanted to help a mechanic get a job at Honda place. He told me he can't work there because if those guys are really good, they would have own their garage and not depending on one small monthly salary. That they are there because they can't compete with others by the roadside due to their lack of experience. I SOMETIMES THINK HE IS RIGHT.

Please, you don't know what you are saying. Can a kazeem read and interprete a live data from a scan tool? You shouldn't be learning to repair a car by trial and error, the error might end up being a costly one, may be a new ECM or replacing an automatic Tranny while the one in the car is perfectly OK, You learn by learning and research not by trial and error.

People are ridiculously dumb geez
It's not okay to learn by trial and error especially when the error marging is either ridiculously low or non existent

You are meant to fault find find first as a technician. If and when you are able to trap/trace the fault then simply replace the part

Most components of manufactured cars have lifespan so if you can't afford the running cost to maintain these cars then you simply don't have any business buying them

Heck, you can easily narrow the problems to particular faults by doing a simple google search

Nigerians are buying newer cars every year.
Kazeems are still stuck in 1970's car technology.

Same thing for our schools. How many undergraduate school auto workshops have the latest equipments for practicals?

All you get are I4 OHV carburetor ICE engine prototype.

A road side mechanic that learns by trial and error. One day becomes very good with time after experimenting with customers cars, he then teaches other apprentice that comes to learn how to avoid error, based on his experience. They are not as bad as painted, most of them are really good

That is the geography of the Earth's surface.
