FG Committed To Completion Of 2nd Niger Bridge– Fashola by balatukur(op): 8:29pm On Jun 20, 2016
The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola, says the Federal Government is committed to completing the second Niger Bridge and Zik's Mausoleum. Fashola gave the assurance on Monday when he visited Onitsha, the commercial city of Anambra, to inspect the progress of work on the second Niger Bridge and other major projects. The minister said when completed, the bridge would bring an improvement and accelerate the economic prosperity, transportation and exchange of goods and services across the country. “I came here in pursuant of the commitment of the Federal Government and that of President Muhammadu Buhari to complete the bridge. “It will give relief to the first Niger Bridge and also help in ensuring that it is now kept in a good state of repair and maintenance.” Fashola said that the Federal Government would compensate appropriate land owners and ensure that the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) was taken care of. According to him, the bridge is the Federal Government’s first measure towards a Public Private Partnership with some investors. The minister also described the project as one of the largest infrastructural work being embarked upon by the Federal Government. Fashola called for commitment on the part of host communities and urged them not to interrupt the progress of the project or engage in hostilities. He urged them to dialogue with the government as work was in progress in the larger interest of the country. On the late Nnamdi Azikiwe’s mausoleum in Onitsha, the minister said that the abandoned project would be completed, adding that it was one little way to appreciate those who had served the country. In his remarks, Gov. Willie Obiano of Anambra stressed the importance of the second Niger Bridge and expressed the hope that the project would be completed in good time. Obiano commended the Federal Government for refunding about N43.8 billion expended by the state government to reconstruct and rehabilitate some federal roads. The governor appealed to the Federal Government to consider the completion of the Umunya axis of the Enugu-Onitsha Express Way, to guard against accidents. Obiano called for the completion of the Nnewi Sub- power station, saying that it would benefit the industrial town and neighbouring Imo communities economically. Also speaking, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe, the Chairman, Anambra State Traditional Rulers’ Council and Obi of Onitsha, assured the Federal Government that host communities believed in the project. “We only ask for fair play and due attention to the host communities’ interest. “Consultation of community stakeholders have been negligible; we have complained and expressed our concern for compensation.” He called for the completion of the Zik's Mausoleum, saying it is a great embarrassment to the country that 20 years after, the project had not been completed. In a remark, the Division Manager of Julius Berger Nigeria, Mr H.D. Bley, explained that the company had been on site since 2014 and had set up several yards to make the project possible. He explained that the project was more of road construction than bridge, adding that the road on both sides of Anambra and Delta were 10 kms while the bridge was 1.5 kms. Bley, however, expressed the readiness of the company to move back to site as soon as finance was made available. The minister, accompanied by Obiano, some traditional rulers and other state functionaries, later visited the second Niger Bridge and Zik's Mausoleum. Other projects visited were the Umunya axis of the Enugu-Onitsha Express Way and the Nkpor Fly-over bridge near Onitsha, among others.

First of all obasanjo started both the kaduna Abuja rail and the Abuja city rail project

But my point is that, this project was important to the eastern people who he claimed he loved and it is easy to complete but he failed to deliver it... Hope u get now??

We have the most fraudulent liars running this Buhari govt:

1) Suffice it to say, the Ogoni clean-up they went for a jamboree dance had zero-allocation in the FG's budget. They spent hundreds of millions orgarnising the flag-off but are now relying on the couterpart funding from the oil companies for execution. Shell is already threatening to pull out due to FG's insincerity.

2) Fashola went to take pictures of the Oloko bridge in Benue state that is about 98% completed by GEJ. Although, David Mark lobied for the bridge and its speedy funding

3) The little the 2nd Niger bridge got in this year's budget may eventually not be released. Already they have started giving excuses how they won't be able to impliment the same budget they themselves prepared

Mr man, GEJ (not OBJ) started those rail projects. Credit should also go to former VP Namadi Sambo though. Namadi Sambo lobbied his boss successfully.

Who even started this shameless lie of Obasanjo starting the Abuja - Kaduna standard rail project?

The only rail project started by OBJ (which Yar'Adua later cancelled) was the Lagos - Kano narrow track.

You have a big problem! May hatred and bitterness not kill you. There is absolutely no proof of every point you wrote up there. It is what you hope will happen and if it does happen, you will still blame the govt. I just don't understand the mentality of some people who want the govt to fail so they can say I told you so!
Re: FG Committed To Completion Of 2nd Niger Bridge– Fashola by asha90:
N43b refund! Now we have enough funds for further infrastructural advancement of Anambra. While other states are borrowing, Anambra is being refunded.

Like I said somewhere, Anambra is a very important state, we need the 2nd Niger to continue as started by GEJ, also all other federal infrastructures to be fix because our state roads are already topnotch. Zik's Mausoleum and library is already in the 2016 budget.

GOD continue to BLESS the light of the entire black race.

"Obiano commended the Federal Government for refunding about N43.8 billion expended by the state government to reconstruct and rehabilitate some federal roads"

Kudos to president Buhari for this kind gesture. This huge refund to Anambra state is definitely one of the reasons why the state is still solvent. Even though wailers and Ipobs are trying desperately to paint a picture of a president that hates the south east, facts on ground says otherwise.
Re: FG Committed To Completion Of 2nd Niger Bridge– Fashola by asha90: 6:37am On Jun 21, 2016
Anambra was and is still solvent before the refund because the said fund is ours ab initio but used in fixing federal infrastructures in the state.

We were doing infrastructures and paying salaries up to date before the refund came recently. It's still our money that they gave us back though without interest. cool

Stop the grandstanding and be grateful to the president that you all love to hate. If not for Fasholas visit, who would have known that PMB refunded a huge N43.8billion to Anambra state?

As in ehn!! Personally, if he has the muscle, he'd ensure that bridge is never completed under Buhari and it would such a monumental shame on him and a disgrace to Buhari's most potent haters- even more so when they drive on it.

David Mark?! Have you seen what the Police Station in his home town looks like? Just one building? Have you seen what the entire place looks like?

I wonder what it'll take to make you people get over GEJ's election loss and come together to work for your country.

where will the shame come from?
Jonathan did a lot at Anambra state with Mr Peter Obi.
If you have been to Bridge head Onitsha before 2012 you will appreciate GEJ.
Coming into Onitsha from Asaba before 2012 used to be like someone moving from where humans live to a thick dirty bush.

Government is a continum therefore GMB should complete what the person that handed over to started.

Keep quite. Don't pretend u don't know exactly what he is talking about. Mr man, Obj started those projects, GEJ did not even complete it. So took PDP more than 10years just for thqt rail track. How pathetic!

You should be the one to stop this pettiness. Refunding N43.8billion in this time of recession is no mean thing to do. You should be grateful to the president for this kind gesture and it also shows that he has nothing against your people. Why dint Jonathan refund the money before he left?
