We'll Frustrate Buhari's Communications To Senate- PDP Senators by BeeBeeOoh(op): 4:58pm On Jun 22, 2016
By Henry Umoru & Joseph Erunke

ABUJA – SENATORS of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, Wednesday, vowed to henceforth frustrate every communication from President Muhammadu Buhari and his All Progressives Congress, APC government to the Senate The senators said their decision to cease further cooperation with the Buhari administration was predicated on what they called “unwarranted threats to the legislative arm of government, particularly to the Senate leadership by the executive arm, as well as the on-going intimidation and persecution of the opposition party (PDP) by the ruling party (APC).”

At a press conference, in Abuja, where they formally announced their withdrawal of support in all forms for the ruling government, the senators accused the president of persecuting their party members in the guise of fighting corruption while turning deaf ears on his party members who have corruption allegations hanging on their necks.

The development confirmed Vanguard’s earlier story that the senators had resolved during their caucus meeting on Tuesday to withdraw their support for the ruling party. Reading a prepared text containing their resolutions at their Tuesday’s caucus meeting, Deputy Senate Minority Leader, Emmanuel Bwacha, who was accompanied by over 30 PDP senators at the press conference, said the president’s actions through the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, had become worrisome to well meaning Nigerians over the safety of democracy in the country. While frowning at the freezing of personal account of Ekiti State governor, Ayo Fayose by the anti-graft agency allegedly on the order of the president, the senators challenge Buhari to extend probe of campaign funds beyond the PDP controlled states.

A copy of the text obtained read thus: “We, the PDP senators met in our caucus meeting yesterday 21st June, 2016 and deliberated on the state of the nation, and to examine our position on unwarranted threats to the legislative arm of government, particularly to the Senate leaadership by the executive arm, as well as the on-going intimidation/persecution of the opposition party (PDP) by the ruling party (APC) “Arising from the forgoing, the caucus passed resolutions condemning in totality the orchestrated plot to remove the President of the Senate and his Deputy, through an illegal means.

”The deployment of state instruments of coercion to intimidate an independent arm of government like the legislature is now a major threat to the survival of our democracy.

“The glaring witchhunt of perceived opposition elements in the polity is invitation to anarchy.” “The war against corruption should not be selective, must be fought with sincerity and not the politics that is being played now with ‘war against corruption”. We therefore condemn in strong terms the sentiments displayed in fighting corruption. e.g. freezing of account of the Ekiti State Governor, is clearly a political witch hunt.

Since the war against corruption has devolved into probing campaign funds, it should be extended to all parties, APC inclusive.

“The PDP Senate Caucus therefore wish to warn the Executive arm of government to act with caution on matters that have the potency to subvert our democracy. The Executive must therefore desist from these acts of lawlessness that are only typical in a military dictatorship.”

”The caucus therefore wish to advise the APC led government to concentrate on the existing economic and security challenges that are threatening our survival as a nation.

“Finally, the PDP Caucus wish to reiterate that we will no longer support the APC government until they cease the belligerent attitude towards PDP members.

The resolution was signed by the Senate Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio and the Deputy Senate Minority Leader, Emmanuel Bwacha, Others are Senator Phillip Aduda, Senator Minority Whip and Biodun Olujimi, Deputy Senate Minority Whip.

said "the president’s actions through the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, had become worrisome to well meaning Nigerians over the safety of democracy in the country"...... Buhari over used Efcc. They now act like unchained wild dogs. The worst is that the hunt is selective which puts me in a state of awe. If there's one thing I ever regret till date, it ll always be voting APC and buhari. I really understand why the PDP senators made this vow. U can't be hunting their members, and expect their full support

It means that PDP legislators will oppose every policy and bills that comes from APC Government as they did during Jonathan's administration.

I think it hasn't gotten to that. As some wise lady will say, consider any proposition based on merit for the love of the country.

The interest of the nation comes before that of a party. The Senators should tread cautiously and pick their fight carefully. Nigerians elected all of you to work in sync for the progress of the nation. The Executive needs to quit nursing the chimera hope that it can overthrow the leadership of the Senate. Such hope should have long faded with the passage of time.

The anti-corruption war is a commendable one, but it daily wears the hue of partisanship. While the anti-corruption searchlight is being brightly beamed on how money was sourced for Jonathan's campaign, it is trite to say the light should not go dim on how Buhari's election was financed too. Surely, the money didn't fall from the sky. Nigerians deserve to know where it came from.

The maturity displayed by PDP senators by supporting the FG is been abused by buhari led FG hence nobody should blame the PDP for this decision. PDP senators have shown enough patriotism in supporting buhari notwithstanding many of his shortcomings.

The certificate saga
Budget saga
Shite massacre
Aba massacre
Harlibuton scandal
Fulani herdesmen
CBN gate
FIRS gate
Unremitted funds from NNPC since buhari s regime etc
These are issues PDP senators needs to address well thereby putting more pressure on buhari
