Lagos – Nyesom Wike, the Rivers State governor, has denied a story carried by a national daily (not Independent) on Friday June 24, 2016 alleging that one “Mr Kinsgsely Fubara”, said to be a Director of Finance and Administration, in the state’s Government House, made repeated withdrawals from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and Zenith Bank to the tune of N11 billion. According to the report, the “suspicious withdrawals” on behalf of the Rivers State government were made between December 2015 and February 2016. Dr. Austin Tam-George, the state Commissioner for Information and Communication, in a statement made available to Independent on Saturday, said “the government categorically denies this fabricated and irresponsible publication.” Tam-George stressed that the Rivers State government never conducted such financial transactions, even as he described the report as patently false. He stated the government had no record of any staff known as Kingsely Fubara, who he described as “a fictional character” created by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the newspaper to embarrass the government and deceive the public. Tam-George stated that the report also indicated that the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) had directed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to probe “these so-called withdrawals”, stressing that such a directive, if true, would be “a manifestly illegal and ridiculous proposition.” According to him, “by law, the Rivers State government is accountable to the Rivers State House of Assembly and the people of Rivers State, not to the Attorney General of the Federation. “This is a totally fictitious report typically orchestrated by the APC and its media allies. But, the story raises fundamental questions about the moral horror that confronts a nation where an anti-graft agency becomes openly partisan in all its intentions and actions. “There is universal concern that the EFCC is playing an extremely corrosive role in the current political dispensation. Rather than fight corruption in a professional and dispassionate manner, the EFCC behaves shamelessly like an integral organ of the APC.” He described the anti-graft commission as a national embarrassment as he claimed that the agency had been targeting only opposition politicians and “critics of the failed policies of the APC government.” Tam-George asked: “Has the EFCC ever heard of one Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, the former governor of Rivers State and current Minister of Transport? Despite receiving over N3trillion in eight years as governor, Amaechi left the most abandoned projects in the history of Rivers State, since 1967. Several petitions against Amaechi, supported by sworn affidavits, have all been summarily ignored by the EFCC. “Even chieftains of the APC have publicly acknowledged Rotimi Amaechi’s stupendous financial contributions to the party’s presidential campaign in 2015. These financial contributions, estimated to be in billions of naira, constitute serious financial crime against the people of Rivers State. “The government and people of Rivers State will resist any politically motivated targeting of its leaders by any agency of the Federal Government, by whatever name it is called.” - See more at: http://independentnig.com/2016/06/26/efcc-a-national-embarrassment-wike/#sthash.ukNRkeNl.dpuf

I will take the EFCC seriously the day it stops bowing to the demands of the president. I will take the EFCC seriously the day they start fighting a general battle and not a one-sided warfare. I will take the EFCC seriously the day they gather all our politicians and lock them away, be they PDP or APC. The EFCC should be like a referee in a football match: even if you are from Liverpool, you cannot gift a Steven Gerard own goal as an actual goal for the red side of Merseyside. |

All na eye service.I have a friend defrauded of N90m by his business friend. To make things worse, she even gave 3 dud cheques. Now this is a serious criminal offense. But believe me,she had not even been detained for a day, talk more of an arraignment. If it were a Yahoo boy sharpening his hacking skills, and was able to raise just a million, they would be quick to comb all the internet cafes in his locale, and prosecute the poor lad.Shame on them... |

EFCC is corrupt in its own! an institution whose former boss was invited by the senate to answer on allegations of corruption,a supposed anti-graft agency whose former head,an arrest warrant was issued on by the senate,to answer on allegations on misappropriation of funds! that should tell you that institution is a joke and a monumental fraud! |

| Re: EFCC, A National Embarrassment – Wike by blackpanda: 7:43am On Jun 26, 2016 |
Why is it that anytime the efcc nabs a thief, they start running from pillar to post looking for whom to smear. Fayose tried it with aisha. Now wike is trying it with amaechi Mr man face ur allegations squarely and stop looking for diversion. Whether amaechi is a thief or not doesnt change the facts on ground. If u say u are innocent then u have nothing to fear And no, stealing and corruption are both state and federal crimes. U cant loot and then be claiming to hide under state laws. A thief is a thief! |
| Re: EFCC, A National Embarrassment – Wike by raker300: 7:49am On Jun 26, 2016 |
blackpanda:deep down in your heart, you know the efcc is fraudulent and one sided in their arrests. Tell me sen Dino can post pictures of gold cars, gold bottles and efcc would remain mute. Tell me why after the fbi listed names of corrupt politicians currently in power, the efcc is yet to act on that list. Tell me why efcc is not question Buhari even after his name was mentioned in the dasuki ish Tell me why a former govt would own almost every business in a state and yet no one deems if fit to question that I hate double standards, what is wrong is wrong, no matter who is committing. We tend to pretend to be deaf, dumb and blind when justice favors us even when the justice was wrong |

raker300:Like many people, u are just a product of misinformation spread by wailers and ignorant fellas. Since when is it a crime to own gold or expensive cars? Or do u have any evidence of corruption against him. If u do, did u file a petition with efcc and they refused to act? Further, the fact that someone has not been arrested doesnt mean he is not being investigated. Efcc works with evidence not public tantrums and roadside gossip. With regards to buhari's name, obviously u very well know that all ex-presidents are entitled to have their cars changed. Its our law and it is legal. But how do u justify the money given to metuh? Dokpesi?? Etc. You can see that these are different cases. The president's car was changed by the federal govt after the incident in kaduna. If metuh and dokpesi and co have any legal reason for receiving stolen funds, then of course the efcc wont have a case. Pls learn to reason with facts and without bias. In anycase, lets even assume the efcc is actually biased, is itto nigeria's advantage that actual thieves are being caught and punished for the 1st time? When pdp comes back they should also catch their own thieves. That way all politicians will be afraid to steal cos when u leave, u will be arrested and jailed! |

Tiskified:Em, sorry to bust your bubble Mr.Governor and his advisers, but you got it totally wrong. You are answerable and accountable to the Attorney General of the Federation in situations like this, they just aren't answerable to you. |

Mr Fubara also, contrary to the Governor's false claims, seems to be very well known to the Rivers State Government as seen in this story from 2012. Link attached below. http://www.nationalnetworkonline.com/VOL7/vol9n47/sports.html
