I grew up in Nigeria believing that lack of electricity power, good roads, pipe borne water, etc were normal. Making ends meet was a luxury in my house. My parents who were civil servants placed a lot of premium on education and good grades. I passed through rigors of job market - aptitude tests, interviews etc and finally secured a job with a multinational company. I had opportunities of traveling outside the country for on the job training etc. On my first trip, I was shocked at how things are done differently abroad. One striking thing I noticed, an average white man is helpful, even if he doesn't like you. They take out their time to help you. One thing I noticed in Nigeria, we hate one another, we are wicked. Oyibo man won't keep you waiting if he doesn't need to. Visit someone's office in Nigeria, unless you are a VIP, you will be treated like sh1t. We Africans are born with a high level of deception , wickedness, selfishness and silliness. In business dealings, oyibo people are very straightforward. We rip each other here in Nigeria. We can't be trusted. Everyone is involved. A majority of our medical doctors perform surgeries they don't need to in order to make money. We don't have power, good roads, emergency services and other social amenities just because we are desperately wicked. Don't get confused, whitemen still launder money. However, they always fulfill primary objectives first. I never saw power cuts, bad roads, etc. Some eastern European countries don't even have as much as we do yet they have constant power and good roads. We are very wicked. I got scammed while buying stuff in Onitsha, an Akwa Ibom guy took my money without rendering services he was meant to render. Another yoruba mechanic also did same. An hausa /fulani man stole my sister's gold. No tribe is innocent here. We need to renew our thinking. Gej, Buhari etc, are all same. We need to retrain our children. There's no gain in looting public funds, there's no gain in scamming others. Let's all come together and build each other. That's the only way we can progress. Daily, I get inundated with Nigeria news. To be frank, it is tiring and seem hopeless. I don't know if any other person see what I see. If we can all cease these silly support for either the ruling government or the previous one. Let's think inwards, start making little changes. |
