THE Niger Delta Emergency Security Summit, scheduled to hold in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, has been postponed to 25-28 July. The postponement was necessitated by the invitation President Muhammadu Buhari of all Chairmen of State Councils of Traditional Rulers to a parley on June 29, 2016. Dr Alfred Chiakor, Head of Secretariat/Summit Coordinator in a statement, weekend, said “The rescheduling is consistent with the imperative of deference to the presidential summon, the highest authority in Nigeria. To perfect strategies on sustaining the momentum for a fruitful summit, the Executive Committee of the South – South Monarchs Forum convened an emergency meeting where it deliberated and unanimously resolved to ratify the postponement, as the meeting will provide yet another platform for interface.” Hr noted that having considered the state of the nation and in line with presidential authority, which supercedes any prior engagement, it was natural to shift the timing of the summit to another nearest date. The shift in dates, he added, will enable the forum to strengthen the objectives by reaching out to other critical stakeholders and appealed to all aggrieved parties to shield their swords of violence to allow the President Buhari led government chart a steady course for resolving the remote and immediate causes of the crises. “The Forum is appealing for calm to enable the Royal fathers initiate measures to douse the tension and provide long term solutions to the restive Region. They also called on the nation’s security establishment to exercise restraint so as not to further aggravate the already charged situation.” He Chiakor added that the forum’s belief that “achieving sustainable peace requires robust synergy, which is the critical element for harvesting inputs and other strategic platforms for engendering peace and stability.” He also noted that “broadening resource and contact database would in no small measure stimulate interest for a broad consensus, as any avenue to explore holistic blueprints that has the capacity to rein in the triggers of recurrent crises in Nigeria and consolidate unity and prosperity of the Region cannot be compromised.” source :http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/06/niger-delta-emergency-security-summit-postponed-2/ Cc: lalasticlala |

See how the traditional rulers and other leaders are rallying to save the situation but in d north with all the boko haram wahala, their local chiefs and rulers absolutely refused to try anything because they were killing Christians and also determined to destroy GEJ's govt. Even Buhari gave those murderers tacit and overt support. Meanwhile I hope the clear mandate of these SS Monarchs is nothing short of restructuring, resource control and fiscal autonomy. It better not be an attempt to sell out and maintain status quo just for oil to flow. Nigeria must achieve a diversified economy with multiple resource bases and the only way that is happening is by simultaneous development and ingenuity on all fronts and from all regions. It is time to grow up and stop the bottle feeding system of governance. |

freeze001:Do not forget that the militants are sets of human being having blood flowing through their body, hence, they are living things but Boko Haram are sets of robots with no blood and brain, hence, they are non living things and worthless................... |

labamo07:The problem was that they were killing and destroying living beings with blood flowing through their veins yet their dumbass religious and traditional rulers refused to step up to the plate and get to d roots of the madness. It hurts me whenever I consider the number of Christian men, women and children those demons have wasted. |

aminho:It means those meetings weren't designed to be of any plausible effect otherwise it would have been as publicised as this one. I can guarantee d agenda always veered off to removing the 'infidel' from power and taking back their 'birthright'. |

freeze001:I strongly disagree to agree the Boko Haram are fighting for a religious cause, it's a political orchestration, they blew up churches and mosques in Kano. Also, the fulani herdsmen is another sect killing people in benue and enugu for baseless reasons. The militants triggered an inhumane action by killing people in Ikorodu. I still maintain my stand, we are in deep mess in this country............. |
