Do u know the huffington post well? It's not vanguard or punch...it's internationally renowned.

Besides GTB was the first to introduce the USSD feature (if i'm correct)

They tend to lead the pack in innovation sha...like their e-branch @ uniben had a large lobby with 4 sockets on each bench n well u know students! 2weeks after opening that branch they basically had amassed an impressive customer base within uniben n ugbowo in general.

Well, I will still pick Firstbank as the most innovative. GTB is just using swagger and Efizzy to swindle us. On the other hand, first bank which is supposed to be an old generation traditional bank is giving these new generation banks a run for their money. Their mobile app, firstmonie, is still the best mobile banking app. That of GTB, Access and any other isn't anywhere as flexible as firstbank's.

Yes na, I get charged between N5 and N10 any time I use it. From my airtime. GTB conveniently forgets to mention that.

Anyway CBN's decision to bar the telcos from using airtime for transactions was painful sha, even though it was not unfounded. They were trying to avoid the creation of a shadow currency in the country which they would be unable to control, since airtime is as ubiquitous as the naira.

Dats not true... they reverse d charge if d transaction fails. *737* is d best thing to happen to gtbank customers in a long time. It has saved me a lot of time.

Truth be told: Mobile banking, like you have in the M-Pesa is the way to go at least simple daily transactions.

Nigerian banks resisted the change as a plague but you can't blame them: after building the huge banking infrastructures across the country then MTN and Co will now partake in a big slice of their money.

Nigerians are the loosers in all these: I give you an instance!

Last month I received my very first payment from PAGA( a fintech company) from one of my customers; rather than close her shop to go deposit the money at the bank, she just went to the PAGA kiosk next door and the paga operator, collected her cash and of course a small commission( which my customer would have spent on Okada, talk less of the time and stress) and instantly I recieved the alert

Such transactions are easier with fintech/mobile solutions due to they can be as close as the nearest recharge card retailer next door; you receive and send cash instantly 24/7 without recourse to banks, ATMs,Internet banking or mobile apps......the huge difference now is that you can actually send the cash you have in your leather wallet to a stranded loved one(who can recieve it without recourse to ATMs or visiting banks both in real time!!!

This certainly will certainly capture a huge chunks of bank deposits which Nigerian banks are not yet willing to part with

I think this article is highly flawed by trying to give the market advantage to the tech companies . In the real sense of it the tech companies are the ones making bank tasks easier. The tech companies gathers the customer base and brings them to the bank through their products ,as time goes on and as mobile payment grows,banks may no longer need marketers because the mobile payment companies would have done the marketing job for them

Did anyone read this section of the write-up?

Why should banks be exploiting its customers as if they can exist without them?

Well,there's away out for the banked and unbanked Nigerians in particular and Africans in general.

Be part of history that will make these banks irrelevant. Bankers pls don't criticise but key in also and make history as well.

before now the 737 was fine until etisalat started charging for using the platform, imagine you want to recharge N100 and network charge has already gotten to N100 because success delay, well I don't use the 737 anymore.

The Punch has never been bought. Whether it's OBJ third term wraparound ad scandal or Dasukigate, they've always been out of any scandal. You don't have to put down anything Nigerian to make your point.

I have been using FirstBank's *894# and Firstmonie for close to 3yrs now, if not more.

GTB is just using swags and noise to market their product. Good for them though. It is a welcomed development.

I've found that for the ones who refuse to learn, a stern correction or good, direct insult usually serves the same purpose.

revenue from digital banking products and services is estimated to grow to almost half of banks’ revenue over the next 5 years.

The money is still in banks at the end of it all. Most of these are just payment and transfer services.

My brother the whole thing tire pesin. If you do not have at least N5 in your airtime, you cannot even recharge your line. I don't understand the logic behind that one
