It's 1k

He kept 200 for himself, he probably just added 800 to the 200 that he kept to give back to John

Really don't think the 800 is a loss, cause the lady is entitled to her change

I've modified my post, the answer is 1k

The answer is simply #200. Check this out

He sold the good for #200, now that's a loss because in the real sense the buyer did not act actually pay for it. why? Because his money was not good and instead received another #800 balance making it #1000 loss. At the end of the day he had no choice but to give john another #1000. Now that makes it #2000.

The answer is 1k.

Let's see it this way; the shop owner borrowed 1k from John and paid #200 naira for the buyer of the item ( since the buyer brought a fake money) and also gave him #800 change which he left with.

That means he has to repay John the 1k he borrowed which will make him loose only 1k.

Thank you.
