The Director General of the Nigerian Law School, Mr. Olanrewaju Onadeko and twenty one other lawyers were yesterday announced as new Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN), by the Supreme Court. The conferment of the prestigious rank on the 22 lawyers yesterday brings a total number of‎ Senior Advocates of Nigeria to451. Meanwhile, activist lawyer Mr. Festus Keyamo who was shortlisted along with 55others, again missed out of the ‎list of successful applicants. The Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court, Ahmed Gambo Saleh who doubles as the Secretary of the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC), announced the list in Abuja yesterday. Ahmed disclosed that a total of 55 lawyers were shortlisted out of the 131 that applied.On the list of the 22 successful ‎candidates are three academicians and two females. The list has the names of

Your statement is baseless and unfounded. First and foremost the distribution of the regions of the comfirmed new SANs is a reflection of what obtains in each region in reality.

As big as the North is, they produced only 4 SAN which shows there arent really eneough competent lawyers in the North when compared to the South.This explains why when Buhari was trying to defend the fact that he didnt have a Waec certificate, he got 15 SANs majority of who were from the south.

The north is backward when it comes to the number of intellectuals and sound professionals found therein when compared to the south but a bigoted and tribalistic Buhari thinks only competent folks are found in the North hence his lopsided appointments which has generated public outcry which have questioned his selections to determine whether he is presiding over the Federal republic of Daura or Federal republic of Nigeria.

Please verify your facts. Adekunle Ajasin University, Ondo has a law faculty. I know lawyers who finished from there. Same for KSU, Ayingba and DELSU (Oleh Campus)

South East 5

Total South = 25
3(North) Vs 25(South). Shows they cannot be compared. As big as the North its only 3 SAN is recognised from the region.

Learn to use proper analogy, SAN is not a blanket appointment
such as ministers and assistants, there are criteria for attaining such.
It is not the north's problem if some southerners failed to pass WAEC,
neither is it the south's problem if many Northerners fails JAMB.

You don't know what you are writing about. In Yorubaland, there are families with four or five generations of LAWYERS. When I was in the Law School 1987/88, Warri LGA had more students than several States in the north put together.
The DG of the Law School was my lecturer, up to a hundred of his former students have become SANs before him. I have some grouses about the award, but not tribalism. It is man know man because there are too many qualified candidates. We don't need quota SANs. I have come across enough of them, to despise the idea. Again when I was in the Law School, you wouldn't believe you were in a Nigerian institution. The efficiency was outstanding.
For each one of those awarded, you would probably find five more eminently qualified.

Falana started winning cases immediately after leaving the law school, even before his NYSC. What is your achievement? You must realize that lawyers have their areas of interest. Falana, just like Fawehinmi, falls in the category of human right.

Implementation of Federal character presupposes that there are qualified candidates. How many Lawyers are ten years and above from the North? How many from Ogun State and Delta State?
Where is the CJN from? Where is the President of the Court of Appeal from? Where is the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court from? Where is the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court from? What about the AJSC? They are all from the north. So no need for Federal character for those appointments? Since Mohammed Bello became the CJN in 1987 all the 8 or 9 CJN after him have come from the North.
