FG To Phase Out Mud Houses by maasoap(op): 6:18am On Jul 10, 2016
The Federal Government said it had begun developing a draft action for the phasing out of mud houses across the country.

The Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, disclosed this on Saturday during a visit to the Nigerian Building and Road Research Institute, Nnewi, Anambra state.

He said this would be made possible through research that would bring about cheap building materials that will enable Nigerians to have affordable and decent accommodation.
“It’s the desire of this government to give Nigerians decent living conditions. That’s why we are charging NBRRI to go into research that would be felt at the grassroots; a research that would enhance employment opportunities and decent houses and decent lives for Nigerians. The government of President Muhammadu Buhari is committed to making a positive difference in these areas,” Onu said.

The minister, who said the phasing out of mud houses might not be achieved immediately, stated that it was an ideal thing to do.

He assured staff of the NBRRI in Nnewi of more commitment from his ministry to boost the organisation’s professional activities and welfare, while tasking them to be committed to researches that will enhance use of local materials.

“We can’t continue to import because to do so is to export jobs,” Onu stated.

Expressing his displeasure over the fact that many of construction works in Nigeria are done by foreigners.

He said efforts were being made to revise school curricular in the country to encourage skills in constructions,

At the National Foundry Development and Training Centre, Ozubulu, Ekwusigo Local Government Area of the state, the minister regretted that foundry tools brought to the institute 18 years ago had not been put to use.

“This is not acceptable to this government. We must make use of this place under this administration,” he stated.

Hope Mr President knows that the people living in these mud houses are those who cannot afford to buy basic items like garri, rice, beans etc due to your to obnoxious policies and sluggishness. Just one year in office, the prices of basic commodities have double. Before phasing out the mud houses, just do the needful Mr President.

so, this is what Ogbonnaya onu was employed to do? Build pencil factories and phase out mud houses?

By the way, I'm not against either of the above. But heck, there's got to be more pressing issues to attend to.

Dis is a FG dat has been battling housing deficit for years now. Coupled with the facts dat ppl can barely afford a square meal and live on less than a $1 a day and are facing crunch economic conditions. By phasing out mud houses are dey going to replace dem for d owners or do they think d owners are not comfortable d way dey have been managing their lives? Most of d policy makers in dis govt have proven to b really clueless and out of tune with d plight of the masses with their misplaced priorities and policy sumersault time and time again. What do u expect from officials who actually boldly claim it is only a few dat are complaining of hard times.
