Writing. Problem with remarking is if outcome remains the same 15k is gone plus I now have to look for another 52k for another exam.

But if it works out, you will have your 15k back plus you don't ve to go through the rigor of rewriting and aiming for a high score in all, all over again.
I'm equally in your shoe, my results from 4th June was 8.5,8.5, 7, 6.5 - LRSW and I immediately returned it for EOR. I know it's a risk but since it's writing I choose to believe God & be optimistic. Btw that was my 3rd attempt with my last result being 6.5,7,7,7.5 - LRWS. So you and mind you the cash ain't even @ my disposal. So I understand your stance but I think the risk is worth it.
I don't normally put me out there but just thought I might encourage you with this. So make your pick on what it shall be.

Thanks a lot, to be honest I'm still torn on what to do. What I noticed after the writing was that my word count was quite low but structure, grammar n all were very ok. Dunno if word count alone would make me go that low. Still undecided about what to do.

Hello House,
Thanks for all the great work you are doing on this thread.
I want to begin the PR process with my husband and wanted to clarify a few things that were not very explicit to me as i read the thread.
I am a doctor with a Masters degree from a US institution. Currently practice with my Masters degree. and have about 8 years post-first degree and 3 years post Masters experience.
My hubby has a BSc degree with about 10yrs experience but has other IT certifications. He's 38 and im 32.
My questions are:
1. who is better placed to be the primary applicant?
2.can we both apply individually (i.e submit 2 applications) to improve our chances of selection?
3. Do I need to evaluate my MBBS degree or only the Masters will suffice?
4. In general what is the best approach to getting a higher score and the ITA?

Many thanks in advance for your responses.

Thanks.

Since your Masters and MBBS degrees are not from Canada, you will have to evaluate either of the two. I said either because both Masters level and Professional degree (MBBS) will give the same point. Evaluating MBBS will require you going through Medical Council of Canada and that takes way longer than evaluating Masters.

Both of you can't apply separately because during your application, you will state your marital status (and you wouldn't wanna lie, my sister). So to me, all things being equal, you that is 32 have a upper hand to be the principal applicant. Both of you could evaluate your degrees so as to get more points and write the English test.

1. You,since you are younger wt a higher degree.
2. 'yes, i.e 2 applications with u as principal applicant in 1, and he in the 2nd.This helps in cases where only one of your occupations is on the list of a province (priority professions) that you wish to apply to
for nomination. E.g if sasks opens for PN and only your husband's profession is on their list. Even though your CRS score is higher, u wont be qualified to apply. It's in such cases the 2nd profile comes in handy.
3.Your masters should do but is your post Msc work experience in medicine or in your Msc field?
4.Ace IELTS,aim for 8.5,8,7.5,7.5 in LRSW.
Hope this helps.

hmmm, good advice. My situation is similar to yours, infact we took d exam d same day. My LRSW 8 8.5 7.5 6.5. I applied for a remark on june 20, i have my fingers crossed as i await a positive news. I must confess i am taking d risk because it is my second attempt, and i have got comparative weakness with listening where i need a minimum of 8. I cant afford to take another exam without bringiing closure to this one, There is no guarantee i will score an 8 or more in my 3rd attempt for listening. Also, i scored a 7 in writing in my first attempt. LRSW 7.5 7.5 7.5 7

Spoke with a couple of people, two well known agents as well and they said my result is very ok to carry on, LRSW 9,8,7,6.5 now I'm confused. With ur result, is it that canada won't accept it cos it's a good score if u ask me. Wasting 52k every time is tiring abeg. I don't even have the cash. There has to be a way to do something with this result, what u think?

Very similar indeed and I submitted it for EOR on the 20th too (I didn't bother taking it out at all) And yes, lisrening isn't something I want yo face again plus my 8.5 can't just go to waste. Your result is great actually, but there's something greater that's having 7 instead of the 6.5 that little 0.5 mark may be costing you as much as 60/50 marks in your cars which may save you the hurdle of scouting for pnp depending on your age & qualifications. So say you're in your mid 30s or 40s and have only Bsc qualification then, you need not bother yourself with the EOR for 0.5.

No doubt , the result is good and meets the requirement, but not meeting a CLB 9 benchmark reduces the competitiveness, and makes you lose close to 60 points. A CLB 9 is LRSW 8777. Except you are looking at Provincial nomination, it is close to impossible to get ITA without meeting a CLB 9 in IELTS.

The optimal age range is 20-29. Anything after that, your CRS score begins to decrease at every of your birthday.

You can calculate your crs score here http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/crs-tool.asp, and you have CLB 10 already in L& R which is great (extra mark), only that 6.5 is the issues. Btw, that '0.5' is no bastard. You need it to find it.

6.5@

My brother, you need that 0.5 like kilode! That 0.5 took you from band 9to 8 with a concomitant 60 marks reduction in your CRS score. If you were about 40 years, the 60 marks wouldn't matter because even with that you'll still need to tour the provincial nomination route to get adequate points.
