ABUJA—THE Senate, yesterday, condemned the weekend murder of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, preacher, Deaconess Eunice Mojisola Olawale, during evangelism in Kubwa, a suburb of Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.

The Senate urged police and other security agencies to intensify investigation, arrest and prosecute the culprits, just as it asked governments at all levels to provide more security facilities, such as closed-circuit television, CCTV, all over the country. The Senate also observed a minute silence in honour of the deceased and prayed that such should not occur again, especially the kind of killing which left the widower with seven children.

The Senate recalled that Eunice Olawale had been into early morning preaching for years without complaints from any quarters, and expressed pains that “as she was being attacked and was shouting for help, no one came to her rescue.”

These resolutions were sequel to a motion by Senator Oluremi Tinubu, APC, Lagos Central. In her presentation, Senator Tinubu noted that unwarranted killings were becoming rampant in the country. She said: “The Senate notes the gruesome murder of Deaconess Eunice Mojisola Olawale, a woman preacher, on Saturday July, 9 at about 5a.m. at Kubwa. The Senate is saddened by the unfortunate incident which leaves the widower with seven children.

“The Senate observes that unwarranted killings are becoming rampant in Nigeria. The Senate observes further that it is unlawful to take another life of a citizen as enshrined in Chapter Four, Sections 33, 38, 39 and 41 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended). “The Senate commiserates with the widower, Pastor Elisha Olawale and the seven children left behind by the deceased.

“The Senate urge members of the public to always respond to distress calls, at least calling emergency police numbers where they cannot physically intervene.” In his remarks, the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, said: “In line with our rules, there can be no further debate. I think that this case is one that is of great concern to all of us.

” He added that the security agencies must do all they can to get the culprits and find a way of bringing an end to this kind of unwarranted killings.
