If you just feel like coming to lagos this week,no problem with that.Just come to lagos, and tell the company you are going back to abeokuta to continue your job.

congrats...in an economy where getting a job is a miracle, you have one job,and another job offer.

A 'multinational' offering to pay 50K as start up in an expensive city like Lagos is probably not worth the stress, but what do I know? Not to talk of how expensive transportation & feeding is now. Perhaps if you state the name of the company, it would help people in giving you better suggestions.

If I were you though, I think I'll stick with the job at Abeokuta, while still searching for better opportunities assiduously. So I'll advise same for a few reasons:

First, Abeokuta is a cheaper city to live in compared to Lagos. You can save more living there. Even if things don't end up as auspicious as you'd expected, you could use savings accrued to invest in profitable ventures.

Also, being a precocious company, you stand a better chance to make notable contributions to organisational developmentā€”assuming your current employer is reasonable.

The ball is in your court anyway. Regardless your final resolve, I wish you all the best in your future endeavours!

You should stick with the present job. You are almost a CEO there.....very important to the company. You got good advice from those above. I'll add this.... don't be carried away by the term 'multinational'...their main and only aim is to make and keep increasing profits at all costs. You can be let go at any moment....so don't even be banking on retirement...before you can blink... these companies can shut down and flee with all your retirements and whatever else they promised to keep you loyal and dedicated.

If u monetise ur so called pension, insurance and all that, it won't be up to 100k a month. Yes I am talking from experience. Beta stay back at Lagos and plan ur life from there. What job security do u seek ? Are u planning to misbehave tomoro ? Certainly no. U speak of pension when u have to survive today first ?
Abeg Lagos job is just too gud. Its easier for u at Lagos to move to a beta job and have beta opportunities than to remove urself from d pix and lock up urself in one microcosm in d name of 50k job. If u move for d 50k u would have sign a pack with mediocrity and u would spend d active parr of ur life struggling financially
.

Thank you for confusing everybody following this thread...,God continue to bless your reading and comprehension abilities

I hope you are not a graduate or an undergraduate Sha o. This your advice sounds like someone who doesn't know the meaning of career.

@OP, you need to think about career progression and job security for now not money. The multinational however if you believe without sentiments that your present job will grow up to be more than what it is at the moment that is your career will progresses (and your income o) , please stick to it.

Abeokuta is better.......!13th month and all that summed together is not up to what u earn now,, come to think of it, accommodation in Lagos, stress and all that...remember that the pension contribution is 9+9 =18 employer half and u pay the remaining half.....The current place u work now is it related to geology? if yes then stay....Lagos is good but if the offer is 150-200,i will tell u to take it...but 50 is just not it

You are a big liar.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There is no job security unless you are employed by Nigerian Government.
You can only be sacked or retired before 35 years due to fraud and new unfriendly Govt.
Moreover, there are no jobs let alone 3 different companies inviting you for interview within 1 week.
Even if you are a specialist.
Oil, Banks, telecom companies, are downsizing and you are talking this... chai!!!

OP, stay where you are o. That 100k in ABK is like 200k here in Lag.

The multinational should match your salary if they are serious about getting you to come over.

OP, my advice for you is that you stay with your current employer, under him you will learn a lot of skills to apply when you are ready for your own business.

Who knows, you may become managing director in that company when things get better grin

Hello everyone, My name is Victory and I don't know how to tell you this or what format to follow

On 31st May this year, a day after my birthday, I resigned from a mining company where I was working in Jos because working terms and conditions no longer gave me what I wanted in a job coupled with the fact that I was fed up with ONE MAN BUSINESS and promised myself not to work with any again.

Immediately I got home that day, I was excited to receive a mail inviting me for an interview with a multinational organization. To cut the long story short, I ended up doing interviews with three different companies within two weeks in Lagos and I resumed with one of them just last week.
Where I am now the pay is 100k per month for my position, accommodation, staff bus to and fro work daily with no other benefits for now, it is a one man business that is just starting up in Abeokuta and I am enjoying working with the company though the job is tasking and demanding but I am learning daily...

Just yesterday, one of the three companies called for me to resume this Friday in Lagos...Please find some benefits that come with the position below as I was told during the interview and from a source within the firm. Though the start up pay is half what I am getting in Abeokuta;
1. PENSION
2. INSURANCE
3. 13TH MONTH
4. TRAINING AND RETRAINING
5. CAREER GROWTH
6. JOB SECURITY
7. EXPOSURE
ABOVE ALL, IT IS A MULTINATIONAL ORGANIZATION

Now I have between now and tomorrow Thursday to either resign in Abeokuta or reject the offer in Lagos
Please I would like for moderators to help move this post to where it can be seen quickly for advise, thank you

@OP abeg forget about that Lagos offer and concentrate on how to develop yourself in Ogun State with 100k.. thank God you have mining experience, out of your 100k go do research and survey the most common natural resource in that state, get youths and children together and start your mining business let them gather so so and so so for you and pay them, you can then find a buyer to buy in large quantity.
Read about Dehinde Fernandez how he started in jos 'Plateau State' by engaging guys to gather tin and colombite for him which he sell in large quantity.

But

I know you have made up your mind already
Thanks for wasting my precious time

In all sincerity I have not made up my mind. I am still undecided about both of them though still diligent in my duties in Abeokuta.
Hoping God will direct me soonest

Please stick to your current job. A free accommodation n transportation with 100k is far better than the other Job's offer. Work hard and learn from it. You can as well open a pension fund account and an insurance where you save some money. If you can save 50% monthly, you will be glad with this decision in years to come.

Cheers

@OP, Your story is quite similar to mine.

i actually took half my salary to join an MNC for growth purposes only to get the shocker of my life.
I met harsher Job conditions, longer hours, stress, traffic, rude colleagues, career stagnation and worst of all financial struggle which I never faced at my former work place where I was earning double. Even at my former job I had offers to double the double coming from mid size firms which I rejected despite their pleas. Today, i am filled with regrets everyday I go to work but cant quit because im stuck .

Moral of the story is that the grass is always greener on the other side.
Stay in Abeokuta till the right offer comes. The Lagos job is not the right offer for now.
Op, u see above comment?

I wonder which multinational wanting to pay 50k... As in 50k? Abeg park well, and enjoy 100k in a low cost of living state, Ogun. wink cheesy

OK sir. You win, i lose. I hope that resolves it and perhaps neutralises the yimu

My views are mine and i hold onto them. I will not join issues with you on the matters you raised. Let history vindicate the just.

Last word, i have no reason to misdirect the op, note my closing comments. The monies he is making or will make are his to keep, so I honestly have no motive to lead him astray. I re-emphasize that the choice is his to make.

I chuckled at Dangote being a one man business though. Brilliant analogy, just like Mike Adenuga and Mike adeojo, lol.

By the way, your clairvoyance did not work, the telco packed up
. I had since continued to change jobs at will, but i know how terminal it had been with a few of the contacts I met in that telco.

No one knows it all sir, i recommend that people should analyse well and thereafter follow their minds.
Brother, no be fight. The telco packed up does not mean you may have not have gotten a better offer in another telco. I only pointed out what does not hold in reality in your post. As someone said, it's all about OP's career expectations and not what one thinks work.

Neither am I fighting you sir. My point is, i went on to get another job later with Glo and they head hunted me from the bank I earlier moved to.

I recall seeking advice from a friend when I was in that impasse, one thing he said which I will never forget is that from a bank I could virtually work anywhere else but that i may be restricted in the telco industry if I opted for it. I don't know how true or correct he was but the ease of entry and exit and changes in jobs and industry can only be attributed to the pedigree, of course, after God. That pedigree goes back to my antecedents. Just a modest example using myself.

Again, op should follow his mind after synthesising all the pieces of advice and suggestions.

I continue to wish him well and divine direction.
