It seems you did not get her point. Is it too much for a man to know how to cook basic everyday meals? There will be times when your wife/mom will be unavailable and you will have no option but to feed yourself. Men that carried the silly 'only women must cook' mentality for NYSC knew how much they suffered during service year. When they could no longer afford to keep eating outside, their attempts at cooking were epic fails. There's nothing emasculating about a man cooking his meals. He's doing himself a lot of favour.
