Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has admitted that Lionel Messi, Pele and Diego Maradona are the three greatest players in football history, but the Portuguese tactician shocked the world by leaving out his fellow countryman Cristiano Ronaldo. Ronaldo and Messi have been the world’s greatest footballers of this generation, sharing the last eight Ballon d’Ors, yet Mourinho has opted for the Barcelona man ahead of his former Real Madrid player. “For me the top three players in history are Messi, Pele and Maradona,” he said. Ronaldo is a three-time Ballon d’Or winner himself while Messi won an unprecedented five Ballon d’Ors.
