If it's not against their military rule, it should not be a news. But I know Islamists to be rebellious and terrorist minded. It's possible this make a news because she is defying the order of state.

It is not safe to have anything tied to your head except your helmet as an army officer.
She is just risking her life to be praised on social media.

A Hijab cannot do what a Kevlar helmet can do for a soldier as a safety measure. The helmet is meant to protect the head.

Very soon we will see some deviants in the Nigerian Army copying this lady; then somebody will go to a High court and the Christian Judge will say 'it is against the norm in the Army and Police to wear the Hijab contrary to official uniform code' then the matter moves to Court of Appeal and the presiding Muslim judge will give a judgement saying 'Hijab is part of worship for Muslim women that should be allowed in public institutions'
