Good day nairalanders,your advice is needed here,I told my dad that I was going for a music competition at Lagos, he replied me saying that if I leave the house I should never come back and I will seize to be his son meaning he is going to disown,what should I do,is my career we talking about now please advice me thank you all

You have two choices:

1.Go to Lagos and get disowned by your Dad.


2. Stay at home and be his son forever.


What other advice do you need ?

Make a hit your dad would become your number one fan

Op, if you are sure of yourself, go ahead and damn the consequences. If you are not sure you will make it in music, then remain in your father's house jejely.

The same way 2face was threatened by his parents back then.... Now I doubt if there's any bigger name than 2face in Nigerian music.

Most parents have in mind what they will want their children to become but DESTINY can never be changed.

you have to be realistic here bro, and not rush into nonsense that may get you in a life threatening situation.
A) you need to be responsible and have the means to care for your own basic needs (food/shelter/clothing etc)
B) if music is the field where you intend to be employed in, then you need to study such field extensively (and possibly be gifted), in order to have all the right credentials that would provide the proper employment
C) there will always be music competitions, so NO rush! you have to remember that less than 1% of people who take part in these competitions ever get a break through (that can sustain their basic needs for a lifetime). so make sure that you are well prepared for any outcome (whether good or bad) before leaving home.

if i were you, i would listen to my father, take a few yrs to master my craft, have a mean to support myself, AND THEN go for as many competitions as you possibly can. yes, it is important in life to do something you are passionate about, but you must give full respect to such craft, and not expect it to happen to you as a fairy tale dream (like a very few lucky ones). just talent is NOT enough to make it in the music industry, you also need the proper team around you, AND some luck. there are millions of talented singers out there who never had a single out played on the airwaves, let alone a hit song... and if you cant sustain yourself doing music, then keep it as a hobby until you can.

Sit him down and give him five real reasons why you think he should allow you pursue a carrier in music.
