Depending on who's using it. Without even using google, common sense should tell any normal human being that the most beautiful university would be in South Africa and using google it narrows it down to university of cape town. How can you even mention any university in Nigeria considering the fact that Nigerians lack any sort of maintenance culture. For something to be beautiful, it has to be maintained. Your problem is the problem most Nigerians have. They lack exposure of any kind, or experience outside the limitations of Nigeria, which is why they are easily dazzled with mediocrity. You need to start traveling the world and you will realize that Nigeria has nothing. Except food. The picture below is a sample of University of cape town. Do you still have the same opinion that OAU is the most beautiful in Africa?

Some OAU students still basking in old glory,how many of them have compared it with ABUAD, covenant that exist in Nigeria ,they will still be claiming African most beautiful university. I count it as a joke

Guy.. it all all started with a comment that OAU is the most beautiful campus is Africa. Even if I had to adjust there is not one university in Nigeria better than any in Ghana.

OP definitely posted pics of sections of the uni that appealed to him.
Even in those he posted, there are evidence of dust, unkept lawns, and cracked floors.
The buildings lack sparkle. Most private unis have better appeal.

No doubt OAU, Ife is an architectural master piece coupled with very RIGOROUS academic system. This fact is stated on their prospectus.

If you are not well above average and sure of yourself don't try Ife.

Have you come across a true Ife graduate under performs at any task. It will be very hard to find.

The only university named Great Ife by another university (UI).

When the late great sage (only Nigerian, dead or a life with that appellation) Awolowo and Co mooted idea the idea of university of Ife in the sixties it was to be a university for the gifted. That's why best egg heads were assembled to kick start it. World renowned professors Hezekiah Oluwasanmi, Ajose, Aluko, Aboyade kicked started the great citadel of learning. Wole Soyinka joined later and bagged his professorship and nobel lauret in 1986 as head of dramatic arts. What about Ola Rotimi, Osofisan, to mention just but a few.

If not for too much students/staff activism, no university in Nigeria would have competed with Ife in any objective international ranking.

University of Ife was built and owned by the Western states but later transformed to FG school. That was when the decline started because of lack of proper funding.

People should stop castigating our universities for ranking low world wide when there is little or no money to run them. Harvard university endowment fund alone is in tens of billions of dollars and this is useful in attracting the best brains in the workd to the institution. Number of Nobel Lauret in a university is an important part of
what they use to rank. Harvard has the highest in this regard.

. This is my block o. Room 11,awo hall. Will never forget the day I came out of the room to discover my stove and pot of soup left on fire in front of my room has been stolen. I'm surprised the building has further deteriorated. Ican still remember my roommates, esho and tokode, now medical doctors, toyin ola dipo the kegite, Taiwo oladimeji, Sanya outplacement, yerima Abdulai.God bles u guys. One of us, great awoites , niyi adeyemi was buried two Fridays ago. We were both elected members , judicial Council in awo hall common room, Nov 1987.i just remember we were being sitting allowances. Ife was really a great experience. Can't see students Union building/forks and fingers.

Actually, when it was built in the 60s, up till 80s, it was officially rated the Most Beautiful Campus in Africa and one of the Top 25 Most Beautiful Estates in the World.

Lack of maintenance and the fact that the world has gone beyond that, meant it cannot lay claim to that ranking again.

Obviously, OAU cannot be the most beautiful campus in Africa today. But it used to be and I don't think it has lost that status in Nigeria.

ABU comes close. I have been to ABU and OAU and I can say OAU slightly edges out ABU.

I have heard of Covenant University too.

It does. You don't know because you have been cooped up in Nigeria for too long and you are basing your comments on your limited exposure and experience. I have been there and many more countries so i speak from personal experience. That is part of what is wrong with Nigerians. They are easily dazzled by mediocrity.
