Former president Goodluck Jonathan was in power for about five years. During this period, some achievements were recorded and of course mistakes were made. However, it can be observed that the real or perceived errors of the immediate former president were capitalized on by the opposition using the media. He was sorely criticized on virtually every issue. Little credit was given to him. As such, during the 2015 presidential elections, most Nigerians preferred the current president. Now the new president is doing some of the things president Jonathan was accused of and even worse. The surprising thing is that the same people who carpeted Jonathan are supporting president Buhari on same issues. For instance, the former increased pump price of fuel. "No, it is wrong, we shall occupy Nigeria until it is reduced, Nigerians are suffering". And he listened and reduced it. He even reduced it further though close to the elections but we had aready made up our minds. Recently, the current government did the same, and it is okay (after a little resistance). This time, the money the government will generate is more important than the suffering. Also, the former sought for foreign help against Book Haram. The response was "how are the mighty fallen". But immediately after the 2015 elections, our current president visited foreign countries for the same reason. The former's rail project was nothing then but now it is something worth commissioning. The former's aides were accused of corruption (not hinself) and he was to blame but the later cannot be blamed for the alleged corrupt practices going on in his regime. The blame must go to others. The former was rummoured to be after a few opposition members. "Oh no, he cannot muzzle the opposition". Now the current is after mostly opposition figures. "Yes, he should go ahead. He is fighting corruption". The former must obey court injunctions as a democratic leader but the current is right not to obey court orders because "we need a strong leader who does not give a damn". The former president kept presidential fleet which cost Nigeria so much money. It was also an issue during the elections. Now that the economy is in dire state, the presidential fleet is still there (or has it been reduced?) being maintained with public funds. But do the press really care anymore? It appears that some people just wanted the former president out of office by all means but used his supposed weaknesses as cover ups. I am not in any way supporting his bad policies. But my question is, if something was wrong for Jonathan to do why should the same thing be justified because president Buhari is the one in charge? Is that not double standard? Or is it that Jonathan being from a minority tribe was not born to rule? |

Nigeria is a continuum. For me it is still the PDP that is in power with a different name. These were men who thought they were cheated or were not getting enough, so they migrated to a new platform. For example, Sen Ndoma Egba had been in the Senate from 1999 till 2015 and when his people refused to return him in 2015, he switched faith to the APC. With this, it is still the PDP characters that manage the APC govt. So don't expect anything different. |

nrexzy:My point is that what is wrong is wrong no matter who is in power and must be condemned. Otherwise an objective observer has no choice than to submit that the whole brouhaha against the former president was and is simply due to his being from a minority tribe. If that is the case, is that not hypocrisy? |
