The Nigerian Olympic football team were initially scheduled to leave for Rio last Friday. Departure was then moved to Monday, and then Tuesday, and then Wednesday and at the last check (last night at 8pm), the players were still in their hotel rooms in Atlanta.
To make matters worse, and as expected, the morale among the Dream Team as they are fondly called, is at the lowest in a long while, with some players threatening to return to their various clubs if they fail to make the trip to Brazil today as again promised by the sports ministry.
One player who didn’t want to be named relayed to supersport.com that ‘“this is nonsense. What are we supposed to do now? Just sit in America when the Games are happening in Brazil? We don’t even know when we are leaving and I tell you if we don’t leave today, I will just pack my bags and return to my club.”
The team’s preparation camp has been rife with problems, most caused by inadequate funding and shoddy planning. For instance their final tune up game against Honduras was scrapped when the team could not travel to the game site. In the meantime the Hotel bills and food are already being picked up the by the Nigerian Community in Georgia, while they wait on the Sports Ministry to respond.
Further news from Georgia this morning is that the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo
has now waded in and along with sports Minister Dalung, are both working diligently behind the scenes to make sure the team departs for Manaus where they take on Japan in the wee hours of Friday morning. The flight time from Georgia with one stop for refuelling in Panama City Costa Rica, is calculated to be a little over eight hours long.
Supersport.com will continue to monitor all developments and break them here.

Amaju pinnick and that sport minister are failures. Never seen a more incompetent set of individuals manning our sports affairs. Our sports men and women have been turned to beggars. Just to get a football team to Brazil has become another problem.

The players were even homeless yesterday till Senate president intervened and paid their hotel fees before they could return back to their hotel rooms, yet we have people here that wants to buy Arsenal.. I didn't call names o. We have people in this country that owns more than 5 private jets.. I weep for this country.

Siasia has been banned from holding meetings with the players and Mikel is now doing the “work of a coach” as he is one relating with the Minister regarding their travel plans to Brazil.. Mikel acting as the captain and the coach. I just feel like crying.. My heart bleeds

I really dont think this problem is from thwe sports minister. I think its from the federal government as there seems not to be funds released to that effect. if u study trends in other games and ministries u will notice a dismal trend of inadequate funding recently.

What is the need? They should just disband, go back to their various clubs. This olympics will be the worst outing for nigeria so what is the need? To go and lose 3 straight match?

I really wonder how some people think.
So if a man wants to buy Arsenal for business purpose,he should also spend his money on what a country have already budgeted for but mis-used this money?
