I laughed at your assumptions. Lagos 70% Christians, is it because of the mushroom churches scattered around nooks and crannies of Lagos . ileya is nearby, come and experience how Lagos would be deserted. Ogun state is not majorly Christians. I grew up among the Ijebus and Abeokuta people. If Muslims are dominant in Ogun state, why is their Ojude Oba always held 3rd day after Ileya. Quit assuming.
The Christians started this mess, let the Muslims take their pound of flesh.
The two religion are foreign to Yoruba land, sorry bro my ancestors don't worship deities, I don't know about yours.

Christians started what mess? Politics in Ondo have simply followed the ebb and tide of the population there. If Ondo had a strong muslim minority they would have produced a governor by now.... You can't say someone is marginalizing a community that is barely 11% because they couldn't produce governor or VP.
Ojude Oba and the practice of the royal court is fixed by those of the Palace, what does that have to do with the Public, who only descend on Ijebuland for celebration, socialisation and chops?
As for Abeokuta and Egbas generally , no even talk am.
Lagos will be deserted in Ileya? smh... If Majority of Lagos indigenes are overwhelmingly muslim, how will Lagos be deserted in Ileya? Where are they running to lol.

As for your ancestors not venerating Orishas... I won't even reply that, because it only informs me more about the kind of person I am conversing wih. Someone already at the deep end of the lake.

haha... Muslims has higher population in Osun, Ogun and Lagos state. It is not 50-50.

Ogun is divided between the Egbados and Ijebu.
Egbados are mostly Christians.

The Egbados influence Christianity in Lagos, just visit Lagos Island and count the mosque vs old Orthodox Churches.

In Osun, Ile-ife is predominantly Christian. Are you surprised why the Christians dominate Ooni throne.

I really love the way the Yorubas on this thread smartly ignored those frustrated mofos begging for attention with their unsolicited comments cool Kudos guys!!!

All I know is that there is no tribe in Nigeria that is more "flexible" about religion as the Yorubas.

To me I think the Christians will edge Muslims with a small margin in Yorubaland (assuming kwara is excluded)

i still think the yorubas dont understand the meaning of the word sophistication , i still cant believe a tribe in nigeria called them selves sophisticated people then i ask again how ? Is it been the first people to meet oyibo people? or the first people to invent car or telephone or radio or camera or lap top or tv or plane? and i ask again why yorubas re so obsessed with this word sophistication this word re meant for countries like japan italy Germany france england russia not a tribe in africa that dont even ve water to flush toilet

Funny, I have NEVER heard a Yoruba man call himself sophisticated. Maybe u can give me a quote I missed somewhere in nigerias past history. I only heard dt word when I came on nairaland & it's usually used by igbos to deride Yorubas.

This fools who call themselves sophisticates are the most divided of all the tribes in Nigeria but one gawd awful thing about their hypocrisy is that they would always turn to shout that the igbos are not United. Igbos are this, igbos are that.

Shameless cone heads.
They have ijebus
They have afonjas
They have Muslim yolobas
They have Christian yolobas
They have sango worshippers.

No state in yorubaland has a Muslim majority apart Maybe kwara.Absolutely none. In ondo state, Muslim are less than 7% of the population and Most if them are recent migrants
By the way this useless organisation must be banned everywhere in yorubaland.
so owo, ondo, akure, akoko indigenous muslims are migrants. You are deluded. The mentioned towns have a large islamic followership. Muslims make up 20 percent of ondo state.

They can as well test their popularity by insisting on having a Christian governor and let's see how they prove their point of having 500,000 voters like they claim.

The best they can achieve in that state at the moment is becoming the deputy governor. It's almost an unwritten rule to have a Muslim governor in Ondo or Ekiti state just the way it's almost impossible to have a Christian governor in Kwara, Niger or Kogi State. Even when Gbenga Faleke almost got it, the North and Muslim ummah scuttled it and smuggled in Yaya Bello.

However with the way those guys marry many wives and procreate, it's a matter of time before they take over Christian environments. Bearing in mind that most christian guys marry only one wife and hardly have more than 2 or 3 children, these days. I won't be surprised if a similar call is made in Edo or Delta in some years to come.
so christians don't marry many wives ans procreate too, see your warped logic.

Market indeed. I will now tell you that, many muslims by name celebrate your Christmas. Shanty churches doesn't change the facts that muslims have population than Christians in those states.

You just want to make mischief of an irrelevant concern. Yoruba do not play religious politics and that is why a Muslim Yoruba man will prefer to work with a Christian Yoruba than an Hausa Muslim. Which is more is subjective to your seeming irrational judgment which in true reality is of no consequence.
If Catholics were asked of their population in Nigeria today, they will probably carry their baptismal record, sum up the figures and release a bogus figure whereas among the Yoruba, catholic like Muslims has lost many follows to Evangelicals.
To sum up, the Yoruba are a special breed in Africa, deeply spiritual yet embrace plurality of ideas, civilized and, many actually have and practice religious values

The title of this thread is the product of a mind suffering from chronic Yoruba-induced monomania.
It's surprising that some of my Yoruba brothers took the bait.
The article is about the Ondo State branch of NSCIS; how does this organisation represents the view of Yoruba Moslems?
Smh.Am amazed that the mod allowed such a misleading caption.

Your comparison is not objective! You should consider the region.

The states you mentioned above are core/northern states politically and u shudnt b surprised dt muslims dominate leadership there

Your comparison is tantamount to sayin muslims must rule in delta, edo wc are clearly xtian states and SS.

SW on the other hand is relatively balanced wt respect to muslim/xtian populatn

Go to any higher institution in the SW and you will see first hand the growing level of radicalization among Yoruba Muslim students.

The problem may not have yet started showing on the streets but give it a couple of years and these radical elements will be in position to change Yoruba politics forever.

The likes of Amir Sanusi where instrumental in furthering the radical Islamic and pro northern movement in universities with their Muslim Student Society. Today those guys are in power and their Islamization agenda is on full swing.

Give Yoruba land at least 10 yrs from now and you will see religion playing a crucial role and determinant in yet heir local politics.

Name instances and unis you were alluding to in the bolded.

While I strongly condemn this line of thinking of the Ondo Muslims, it is important to note that other states in the SW that are Muslim majority especially Osun have always been sensitive to the feelings of non Muslims, so saying Muslims are in minority in Ondo would be foolish
Osun even twice had Christians as both governor and deputy(Oyinlola's administration), despite being a Muslim majority state.

While that shouldn't be the yardstick for voting (and it has never been in the SW before), I think it isn't out of place to accommodate Muslims, maybe the as the deputy.

Nonetheless, I still think it is dumb to vote based on religious lines. I, for instance haven't benefited anything from Buhari, (a fellow Muslim since he assumed office), so what's the fuss about religion here.

Just vote who you feel will serve you better, even if an atheist
Muslims aren't neglected, the two deputy governors in the last 8years are Muslims.
