Let's assume you do not face any problems at Nigerian Airports. You would almost definitely be refused entry into the UK (assuming you have a visiting visa).
If you have a settlement visa, then a one way ticket is allowable.

Are you the only person not aware of the activities of Nigerian airport officials?

We see many reports of them asking for bribes before processing people.
Some have been detained and prevented from boarding flights until they part with large sums of money.
An excuse like single way ticket makes you much more vulnerable to these people.

Demerits of purchasing a one-way ticket.
1: A one-way ticket is more expensive than a two-way ticket.
2: You stand a very high chance of being denied entry into the country you're travelling to. Foreigners with either temporary or permanent resident permits of the country they're travelling to can do so on a one-way ticket.

One way tickets actually tend to be more expensive than return tickets
