How is it a crime or offence to name ur pet whatever u want??
There's no offence of whatsoever in naming his pet any name he deemed fit, I'm only speaking from the moral point view and don't let us even pretend as if we don't know why he named his dog Buhari in the first place anyway.

Like I said, let us strive to be a good neighbour, if not because of us, let's do it for our loved ones and like a yoruba proverb says; he who throws a stone in the market will hit his relative. Be careful what you do unto others it may boomerang towards you or someone close to you, peace.

A noun is a name of a person, animal, place or thing. So Buhari is a noun and a person can bear it as well as animal, place or thing.

If following on the man's assumption that he named the dog buhari from his adoration for the president then we can relate to that with the way barbing salons, clothing lines and such are named after famous people. Normally animals (pet) are named with what you would want to hear on a regular basis and gives you good memories instead of bad ones. Who wants to name his dog Judas?

We once had two dogs during the era of the past US president; George and Bush. Nice dogs they were and Bush performed a selfless service of protecting its new owner - we sold it to - by taking the gunshot that allowed the owner to escape.

We need to ask who names his/her pet after someone like say a terrorist or an hated personality. It would be hard to prove if Mr Joe did it to create spite unless the police want to turn mind readers. People who adore a personality could label or tatoo their bodies with the name (which could explain the dog branding).

There is limit to how one can claim spite. An incident once happened whereby a customer at a friend's barbing salon asked that the music (being played before he got there) should be turned off simply because it was christian music. The accuser Halilu Umar, in this case had a choice of minding his own business as the dog was not mentioned to have transgressed his territory. Actually the police should place him under arrest for threatening the life of another else it would encourage the acts of people who killed the redeemed lady evangelist a while ago.

Irrespective of all this, this case would serve as a continuum of encouraging the intolerance of troublemakers or a caution to them. Also if Mr Joe had been behaving in a manner that was negative to what he claimed as reason for naming the dog and to antagonise his neighbours then he should be prosecuted to let others know that the police would handle all complaints and the law need not be taken into their hands. Even at that the law would identify with him having the right to name his own property as he wishes. Even movies show bad representation of people and places, do we then stop them?

If this had been the norm in the past, farmers would not have had to revenge attack on cattle which led to reprisal attacks of farm villages being razed and people killed.

Provided he is not killed, a good human rights lawyer would make Mr Joe a very rich man from both the police and Halilu Umar's pockets.

I pray the AIG gets the wisdom to take this case to a good conclusion.

truth is, it is rude and absolutely derogatory to name a dog after your president. it is enough to engage in name-calling during conversations, online or offline, but to go to extent of actually naming your dog after your president quite uncalled for no matter the kind of hatred you have for the man. if indeed he loves his president as much as he claims, why didn't he wait to name his unborn child after him? I'm amazed people actually support his actions.

The Igbos have suddenly assumed the previous Housa Backward and uncivilised position in everything. The east is the new Nigeria distractor, a position not contested with the North since independence until recently.

No matter how you want to paint this morality their is no law in the constitution of nigeria where its a crime to name ur pet whatever you want.

Yes he might have done that out of dislike for the name "buhari". People hate people so what? Jesus was hated so who dafuck is buhari not to be hated? More over u dint hear d other side of the story, for the so called foreigner to threaten to kill d accused for naming his dog, he might have been the bad neighbour here.

I still wonder why a dog named buhari should be getting more attention than pressing issues, I doubt the AIG has shown interest in the case of the fulani herdsmen attack few days ago. They claim his actions was capable of sparking ethno-religious violence,a cartoon in far away Denmark has sparked violence in the north before, and who is to blame that a particular region has decided to be savages and bloodsuckers even without meaningful provocation?, meteeeeew

Its just unfortunate that we Africans have continue to live with a character the European used in describing our backwardness. What is so special about this act that has attracted so much publicity and national attention?

Isco who plays football for Real Madrid named his pet dog Messi, and told the world its because of his admiration for the Argentine world best player. Messi appreciated it and lives on. Here we are hell bent on issues that has no value to anybody.
