Few months ago, I waked up one morning feeling very dizzy. As a Nigerian, the first thing that crossed my mind is Malaria/typhoid. I wasn't disappointed when I went to the hospital after wor, it was Friday evening and the Laboratory has closed for the week, so the doctor recommended I treat Malaria and typhoid and come back first thing on Monday morning to run some recommended tests. I went to the hospital pharmacy and bought the recommended drugs. When I got home, I picked my phone and google all the prescriptions they gave me one after the other. That was when I realized that antibiotics and iron interact badly with each other. So I went to a nearby pharmacy and got another multivitamin that doesn't contain Iron(fe). I started mi medication as prescribed by the doctor. By Sunday evening, my illness got worse. I was not only feeling dizzy this time, but chest pains, palpitation, indigestion, light headedness, back pain, shoulder, I felt I was going to have a heart attack. I picked up mi phone again and listed all the symptoms, and voila ! Coronary heart disease appeared. Omg. Heart disease is the second most killer disease in the World. After cancer Is not possible, I browse all through net, checking all the reliable sites like webmd, America heart foundation, heart line etc By dawn, I am fully convinced that this is actually a heart related disease. . From Internet research I realized that it was the antibiotics that made things worse. I guese I should have googled more before going to the hospital, cos it seems the informations on net is really vast. I just started laughing, life just started to look good and brighter. Like seriously, I just started to reap the fruit of my labour! before I could say jack, my laughter turned to tears, I mean, what d fu****ck. m just in my late 20's and am already dying That's what I thought, cos I believe that once u re diagnosed of heart related ailment, u re a gonna. My life style caused me this. All I have been eating are junkies and unhealthy foods, I rather club on weekend than go to the gym. It will interest u to know that most of your delicious meals are not healthy. Just in a matter of few hours, my life changed. I had to order my house boy to clear the fridges of all unhealthy foods on eat. Presently I only eat fruits, vegies and foods rich in fibre like whole wheat and oat meal. I have subtituted my sugar for honey. My cooking oils to pure soy and local kwili kwili ( groundnut is rich in polysaturated fats) oil. I reduced mi salt (sodium) intake. Changed mi bread spread to groundnut paste though I had to order it special cos I don't want d type with added salt or flavours like does expensive poisons we buy on Super markets. No more beef, I only eat fish(salmon), not the fatty cat fish. I have this magic tea mixture. A green tea(Lipton), ginger(fresh), lemon, honey. I called it magic cos its the healthiest gift u can give to yourself. I started jogging every morning and evening. To cut everything short. The doctors are our physical God, but most of us don't know how powerful our smartphones are, until you start changing your life with it. It will surprise to know that, I only took doctor recommended drug for a week. With the help of my phone I changed my Life style and within few days I was back on mi feet So it wasn't about taking thousand drugs and medications but changing your life style. And if it wasn't for mi phone. I would have had a heart attack, stroke or even died. Before I eat Anything or take any drug today, I consult mi phone first. That is after I have been to hospital to see mi doctor. So stop believing that those your expensive phones are just for instagram, selfies, twitting, face booking, "Naira landing" etc and change your life with it. Today I am stronger than I have ever been in my life. My woman is feeling the heat (lol). She told me last time that I lied that i Was sick Just to make her hurry back to Nigeria cos she was out of the country then So when she came back she expected a house full of drugs and medications. Rather all it took was mi phone and I to plan mi life style. Even mi doctors are surprise of how informed I am. Eat healthy, and live healthy and put your goddam expensive to good use If only Stall odua's Son had the same orientation, he will be alive today Happy Sunday peeps NB: am not saying you should not consult your doctor but sometimes after consulting him do a little research, the doctor may be stressed out or just wake on the bad side of the morning. So if you establish any doubt humbly consult cos you know that medical professional have so much ego just like lawyers. Don't tell them they are wrong but rather humbly tender ur reservations. |

I agree that checking up on some symptoms and remedies about how we are feeling is good but i'll still advice paying a doctor a visit and having a medical check-up rather than an online diagnosis. WebMD, the leading online health practitioners are fond of assuming the worst of illness to any syptoms e.g can't fall asleep on time?..sorry, u've got cancer. feeling a slight headach now and then?..sorry, diabeties b7. Id rather visit the doctor or clinic than looking things up on net, permit my ramblings. |

Those of us who were raised by medical parents don't disturb our selves on some of these things. There are a lot of bullshit on the internet and a lot of doctors don't know jack. |

Make sure you see your doctor to refer you for ecg and stress-test. Endeavour to check your blood pressure regularly. Prevention is always better than cure. This healthy lifestyle you have recently adopted please and please let it be for life. Don't revert back to your "old" ways. To have a healthy approach is always cheaper than buying drugs or medicine to cure illnesses. |

before we all jump into conclusions why don't we actually look at the positive side to the op story (am sure that's what he's trying to pass along) 1st- it's good to know what you taking in terms of drugs (medical practitioners are not God and can make mistakes. In the case of the op, the mistake there was for them to just tell him not to take the blood capsule or syrup with the anti malaria drugs (he's suppose to wait till he finishes that, den start taking the blood drug the next day) 2nd- why I would say it's good to be knowledgeable health wise, I won't advice ppl to bypass their doctors or pharmacist (other health practitioners included)....medical check up also 3rd) am sure you all noticed how the op delved into making drastic life style changes and not drugs... That's even the 1st thing that doctors or pharmacist advice patients (diagnose with most heart issues) to do....decrease sodium intake (salt), alcohol consumption, exercise n decrease fatty food intake etc It was really good of him... And is something that I would really advice others to do, even though they are healthy... Let's learn from his story @ idensko how did you add the lemon and ginger to the tea? Did you squeeze the lemon juice or put the whole lemon? Same also applies to the ginger? NB: please that I advice you learn about what you take does not warrant you going to argue with your care givers on, also not all you see online are correct (same as not all you see here on nairaland is true ) Do have a blissful day folks( |
