lalaboi:"The presence of a director of football acts as an intermediary between the manager and the board and may relieve pressure on a manager by handling aspects away from day-to-day coaching, allowing a manager to focus on on-pitch performance. The director may also help to stabilise the club – many examples exist of director stepping in as a caretaker manager on the departure of the manager. The director – often an experienced football figure – may also positively advise a less experienced manager or the board of a less well developed club." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Director_of_football ''Generally though it is often perceived both within and outside the football club as an alternative form of the dreaded vote of confidence for an under-performing or inexperienced manager. At other times, this appointment is viewed as a direct threat to the manager's autonomy and authority and often marks the literal 'beginning of the end' for the manager in question at a specific club. The technical director role is generally different to that of a director of football, a position which usually involves overseeing the signing of players'' https://www.quora.com/What-does-a-technical-or-sporting-director-at-a-football-club-do That explained, I'll have to ask, who is our technical director? Ans: Micheal Emenalo. Lalaboi look no farther for your answer. |

Conte is fully in charge of transfer direction this window. We saw it in all the players we were linked with - every single one of them was down the central spine of the team. If Emenalo was calling shots, you will hear the usual rigmaroll of Chelsea chasing 100 wingers. Emenalo did not even get a penny to spend on loan army this window. We signed 4 very young players for pennies for the development squad The Luiz signing had Contes blessing. Luiz was not on his wishlist, but on deadline day, after failing to land CB targets, the club told him Luiz was available and he approved. It does not concern Conte that Luiz only has 4 years left in his legs. Conte will be gone within 3 years like every Chelsea manager. |

Griffon:I'm not getting involved in that discussion, only pointing out how your link doesnt actually support your position. Read again. "The technical director role is generally different to that of a director of football, a position which usually involves overseeing the signing of players. The technical director looks after a whole host of things that offer an element of continuity above and beyond the to-ing and fro-ing of individual managers. The role tends to include, and this is by no means a comprehensive list: responsibility for and the overseeing of the academy, the training ground, the infrastructure, medical, physiotherapy, conditioning, fitness, nutrition, hydration, rest, well being, and culture and behavioural standards within the club. The technical director can also have a remit for coaching programmes and philosophy (coaching the coaches). It is a role typically found within a nation's football association as well as big and also ambitious smaller clubs. It tends to be a role designed to facilitate long-term strategy and continuity independent of a manager's remit with the team." The statement initially defines what a Director of Football does, i.e. overseeing the signing of players - before going on to differenitiate between the two roles by crucially listing the duties of a TD - which as you probably have noticed, do not include recruitment. Wrong link bro. ![]() |

Griffon:You should seen that coming as soon as you started reading thinhgs like 'Alonso is okay', 'Luiz is servicaable', and 'The spine is not too bad' Far be it from Ibime to let Emenalo dare take the credit for Kante ![]() |

Griffon:You can't blame Emenalo for Luiz. Luiz is a personal favourite of Abramovic. PSG offered Luiz to Chelsea earlier in the week, Abramovic was keen, Conte was initially lukewarm but gave his blessing yesterday when it looked like nothing else would materialise. |

Nihilist:Emenalo has already given Conte the credit for Kante in case you missed it. Why should I bother. I know my club, I know the characters and their outlook on football. I am against Luiz signing but I won't pin it on Emenalo. Alonso I actually rate as decent, but so is Ake. |

Nihilist:3 of our back 4. Lahm Alaba Hummels? and Muller. 3 to 4 out of 11. I doubt 3 elite clubs in the whole of europe has that |

Nihilist:Are you looking for a LB to dislodge Azpi or deputize him. Hold that thought cos whichever you choose holding on to Ake or Bertrand or PVA would be much better than pissing almost £60m on Alonso, Luiz and Rahman Nihilist:Zuniga ke? Do you know how long that one was chopping bench at Napoli before they sent him to Watford? I'm saying it is possible but unlikely that Ake or Bertrand would have done significantly worse than any of the 5 ninjas you mentioned. The CL teams you have from your league have Danny Rose and Danny Simpson at fullback. Fancy names from Continental Europe is not always the answer bros Nihilist:Of course it was an anomaly, still it proves my point. There is something there that someone or some people are just too lazy to nurture. In the last two decades John Racist is about your only academy player of note. It is appalling that you guys cannot boast of 1 serviceable yoot player in your squad Of all the 'good' players that left Southampton in the last 2-3 seasons or so name just 1 player that has gone on to achieve anything. Go on I'll wait Nihilist:Müller, Lahm, Alaba, Badstuber, Hummels. There has been a significant drop in quality of our youth squad but our record when it comes to integrating is not as abysmal as yours Most of the Leftbacks significantly better than Azpi are tied down to other clubs (Alaba, Marcelo, Alba, Rodriguez) even younguns like Kurzawa, Digne are presumably out of reach. If you do feel playing lotto on sankwa players like Alonso, Baba Rahman e.t.c is a better and more sustainable option then everything Odinma. Bear in mind however that the guy at RB is on the wrong side of 30 Nihilist:The pool of outstanding talents at LB is not that deep, I think you are not realizing or acknowledging this. I hate to be the carrier of a bad news but majority of the talents you are looking for to displace Azpi are tied down at other clubs |
