– Aggrieved Youth Movement called on the Avengers to leave the Rivers state

– The leader of the group said it ready to embrace peace and surrender

– ‘General’ Waney claimed that the group in non-violet and was never involved in kidnapping or attacks on the oil facilities

.Militant group, Aggrieved Youth Movement (AYM) has warned Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) and other militant groups to stay away from the Rivers state.

‘General’ Don Waney, leader of the group, stated that he was ready to surrender his weapons and ammunition and embrace the amnesty offered by Governor Nyesom Wike.

He advised the militant groups in the oil-rich area, comprising the NDA, to embrace peace and put an end to the destruction of oil and gas pipelines

Waney explained that any state could not achieve any form of development without peace, continuing that his group was not involved into the abduction or any other form of violence.

He said: “On a strong note, we are non-violent and we shall remain so in our collective agitation for a better ONELGA (Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGA), Orashi and Rivers State.

“In the light of this, we call on the Niger Delta Avengers group to leave ONELGA and Orashi region out of their targets.

“We are against the bombing and destruction of vital oil and gas installations in our communities. We shall not allow them or any of their type to enter our land.”

The Avengers have led a campaign of attacks on oil and gas facilities in the southern region since February 2016, reducing Nigeria’s oil production by hundreds of thousands of barrels and making international oil companies to briefly stop operations at different times

The militants have earlier rejected the government’s offers of talks and claims to be fighting for a greater share of Nigeria’s oil wealth.

Oil accounts for around 70% of Nigeria’s national wealth and more than 90% of the value of its exports.

Last week the militant group announced its readiness to enter into negotiations with the government after several false starts.
