The rate at which some illiterate Hausa Moslems are eager to kill in the guise of fighting for a god is alarming, worrisome and scary. More scary is the deafening silence by imams, sultan's, emir's, Islamic clerics and even the government in power. More worrisome is their effrontery and audacity to carry out their murderous act anywhere.

The case of some Hausa Moslems trying to Lynch and kill a pharmacist "in Lagos" is the height of this religious barbarians, and must be condemned by any rational individual. Proper legislative actions must be embarked upon by all states in Nigeria stipulating strict sanctions and punishment for people who engage in religious fights. If this people are not afraid to carry out such barbaric act in a multi ethnic state like Lagos then there is serious danger.

Nigeria is about to head the Turkish way, where a nation of almost 100% Christians population, has been reduced to less than 1% Christian population, due to the silence of Christian leaders in the wake of rampaging murderous Islamists. For how long shall Christians, traditionalist, atheist continue to toll the line of acquiesce in Nigeria. It's time to say enough is enough.

The moderates Muslims especially the northerners, who are keeping silent on all these vicious acts carried out in the name of a God, would some day face the same evil by the time their region are filled with moslem extremist, Afghanistan would be a child's play to what would befall that region. And also the south western Moslems keeping silent, remember you are not seen as true Moslems by this jihadist when the time come to murder the so called "infidels" you would not be left out.

Recently emir sanusi said Nigeria needs Lagos more than Niger Delta, if you are someone who reason deeply, you would know what sanusi truly mean with that statement, for this people everywhere must be conquered or had been conquered as instructed and stated by their demi god Ahmadu Bello.

The observation raised is not a new trend but the worrisome thing is the failure of political & religious elites to address this looming disaster as the OP have rightly advocated.As it can be seen,a fanatic is already showing him/herself up here.He/she should know that where you own stops,is where another man's own start.Nigeria will not contain us all as this worsens some more.Meanwhile the MODS should do the needful.

Whether or not one's religion is ridiculed isn't the case here. Killing is bad. I hate it when people say "I don't support the killings but in order to live in peace people shouldn't blaspheme against the religion."

Are Muslims the only people in Nigeria?? Don't know its also blasphemy against our God when Muslims say that Jesus isn't God? Do you see us killing anybody? So the problem isn't whether or not there's a blasphemy (whether or not there's a blasphemy, nobody has the right to take a life) , the problem is the Muslims with killer instincts.

Imagine a hypothetical situation where a traditionalist believes that a certain cup is their god. Does it mean they reserve the right to murder someone for blaspheming against their god (the cup)??

While Christians can be often liberal with our religion, we have no right to dictate that Muslims should also accept insults to who they revere because it is not necessary to insult their prophet or beliefs even if we disagree with them. It's called mutual respect for peaceful coexistence.

I personally detest those that deliberately disrespect the beliefs of others and hardly have any sympathy for them.

A lot of our Muslim brothers from the North (not all, in fact, I have a lot of tolerant Muslim friends) especially don't know any better and seem to not want to know. They are content being ignorant, silly, stupid, and seem to find solace in the perpetual display of their animalistic tendencies.

Hacking down a man over religion or whatsoever is callous. There's just no excuse for that. Sometimes, it seems to me as if Nigeria has the least tolerant Muslims of all African countries.

In Africa today, Senegal has become a model for interfaith peace. And despite boasting over 95% Muslim population, one barely hears any bad news emanating from there.

Which brings me to the contrasting difference between the two countries as regards religion. To change the situation in Nigeria today, the change has to begin from the top. Both the Muslim political and religious leaders must lead by example. For example, interfaith marriages are commonplace amongst Senegal's elites, while in Nigeria, I know about a professor who doesn't let his kids mix with Christians. Some elites deem mere communication with people of other religion as haram.

Governors up north are the proponents of sharia law, albeit hypocritically; they mostly weigh it up to score political points, they are not the least bit as Godly. While in Senegal, you will find them living as though they were in France; very secular and comfortable.

Education alone cannot conquer this menace. This is because a lot of those intolerant people are susceptible to fundamentalism and will do anything to conserve their nasty ways. To achieve something meaningful, only penetration will do. Penetration through various means.

The power of communication cannot be underestimated. Have you ever thought about what will become of the Fulani herdsmen's attacks should figures like Buhari and the sultan ever muster the courage to condemn them outrightly and with all sincerity?

The followers are just that--followers. They are either acting on instructions of a religious or a political figure. To them, it's always "mallam ya ce". Only mallam can tame them. Unfortunately, mallam has a heart as cold as a bag of ice!

Look closely, you will see a similarity between the Yoruba Muslims and the Senegalese ones. There is no society, whether Christian or Muslim, that is without intolerant people. But the goal is to make intolerance the exception, rather than the rule.

This should be our goal, especially in the Northern part if the country.
