The Federal Government on Friday kick-started the concession process for the nation’s major airports, with the inauguration of two committees. He said the move was in over-riding national interest and to ensure the establishment and sustenance of world class standards in both infrastructural development and service delivery.

The committees which were inaugurated by the Minister of State for Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, are Project Steering Committee and Project Delivery Committee.

Performing the inauguration in his office, the minister said he would be the chairman of the project steering committee with the mandate to provide the general direction and steer the course of Public-Private Partnership project concessions in the aviation sector.

He said some of the reservations being expressed by people about the exercise were borne out of misconception that concession is synonymous with privatisation.

He explained that the affected institutions remained the properties of the Federal Government and that more jobs would be generated from the exercise.

The minister, according to a statement from the ministry, gave the terms of reference for the committee to include approval of technical, financial and legal framework for the successful preparation and execution of the concession and provision of policy guidelines and general direction on all matters relating to concession of projects and programmes in the aviation sector.

Others are to consider and facilitate necessary permits, clearances and approve action plans, budgets and financial requests submitted by the project delivery committee.

Its nice to see goverment building on the achievements of the previous administration. The airport concession plan was initiated by Sanator Stella Oduwa when she occupied the position of Aviation minister. Discarding brillient initiatives basesed on political sentiments should be condemned outright in Nigeria. God give them the heart to continue building on more brillant initiatives by past administration such as this IJN. Amen

Note..there is no transparency in nigeria..so it's all racketeering.
And don't give uk and us..airports..those countries have built institutions..even at that..some persons plays serious role in governance.
