If any Nigerian or Nairalander is in doubt about what this present Govt have been saying that GEJ is the real cause of this recession, then they should carefully read the below article. Why you must believe the article It was published just before the 2015 presidential election, that was keenly contested between Jonathan and buhari. It was also published by anti APC newspaper Vanguard news. See below Tough times ahead in post 2015 elections |

daclint:Why you should not be anymore If that happens, the incoming government will have a Herculean task to run the country effectively. Many states will not be able to pay their bills, same with the Federal Government. As it is now, money that would have been judiciously used is being frittered away in foreign currency in the name of election. Right now, politicians have invaded the foreign exchange market to buy up the available dollar to pay the electorate for votes. |

nnachukz:Many of you read only headlines and that act alone is pathetic, as it will make you uninformed. This isn't unexpected, that's why someone like me isn't complaining. Of course I'm feeling the heat too. I'm supposed to be traveling with my family to Seychelles, but our bill for 5 nights when I checked on Saturday Ticket and Accommodation came up to about 1million Naira. Return ticket for one adult is 363,000 via air France Due to exchange rate at over 300 Naira to a dollar. But I know for sure it would be better before 2019. They've taken a very good step in trying to fix infrastructures via borrowing. Once this can be done, things will align pretty soon. This is largely in line with analysts’ expectations, as they anticipated the inflationary pressure to intensify in February due to the weakness of the domestic currency over the past six months. This had a knock-on impact on prices of both imported food and non-food items. This was attributable to the faster movement in the prices of imported food items, as reflected in the faster pace of growth in the Imported Food Index in February to 8.8 per cent – a 12-month high. |

We know the past administration was a deeply corrupt, wasteful and destructive one. However we expect so much from the current administration to save the situation by providing genuine solution to our current economic dilemma, block loopholes through which our funds and resources are being stolen, deal with corrupt ones who have enriched themselves against the law. We expect this govt to secure Nigeria from terrorism and all forms of criminalities and bring to justice economic saboteurs. So much to do within limited time. Pls hurry up!!! |

Franchise21:that's because 16 months isn't enough to fix problems of 60 months or maybe 180 months. As long as oil is down and you are cheering the avengers on, to continue bombing, this government needs at least 4 years to give you change. And as long as you keep blaming this government for the problem, this government will keep blaming the government that caused it. You don't expect them to keep quiet and take the thrash talking from you, do you? |

ddippset:Wow. Well thought-out response. Yes I agree with you that the APC needs to step up the game. That is why I'm in full support of the borrowing. Infrastructures needs to be fixed asap and we take it up from there. Henceforth, no one should blame APC for dollar scarcity, if someone like patience Jonathan could have in her account over $20million. They took away millions of dollars from the fall of 2014 to March, 2015 |

davodyguy:Had Jonathan won, foreign investors wouldn't have left in droves. Had Jonathan won, TSA will be implemented in phases such that banks, indigenous industries and private sector will not collapse instantaneously. Had Jonathan won, our agricultural sector will be booming while the cost of food stuff will drastically be subsidised through provision of farm inputs and fertilizers. Had Jonathan won, the worst that our economy will get to is growing by 2% instead of 6%. Had Jonathan won, rich Nigerians and people in diaspora will continue to put in their money into the system to boost local content. Had Jonathan won, there won't be such massive de-marketing of Nigeria as fantastically corrupt country that was championed by Buhari's utterances which practically kept would-be investors away from Nigeria. Had Jonathan won CBN wouldn't have ceased peoples foreign currencies nor temporarily suspended dollar account that lead to total collapse of Naira. If I may ask, you mean to say that Rivers State Government is in shambles because Amaechi squandered all that was left of the State to sponsor Buhari? President Goodluck Jonathan on Friday during a rally in Enugu said that the All Progressives Congress candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd), cannot remember his own mobile phone number. Jonathan, whose unscripted address was mostly a response to previous statements made by Buhari, accused the APC presidential candidate of deceiving Nigerians by promising to revive the economy without explaining how he would achieve the feat. The President wondered how Buhari would develop the country’s economy, a feat he could not achieve while he was in office as head of state between 1983 and 1985. “Is it now that Buhari cannot even remember his own phone number that he can change the economy of the country.” Jonathan asked. The Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate said that although he did not like to “go personal during campaigns,” “sometimes circumstances demand that certain things must be said.” Jonathan said that Buhari belonged to the medieval age, adding that he (the APC candidate) intended to run the Federal Government as a medieval king. He said, “We cannot run the government as if we are in the medieval age; we cannot run a government where somebody said he would throw people into jail. “You are not a medieval king – a medieval king can throw you into jail but we have to follow the rule of law because we cannot go back to the old days.” Jonathan, however, read the speech made by Gen. Ibrahim Babangida (rtd.) after overthrowing Buhari’s regime through a military coup on August 27, 1985 to justify his claim that the APC candidate does not keep his promises. Babangida, in the portions of the address read by Jonathan, justified Buhari’s overthrow by pointing out that the latter did not live up to the promises he made to Nigerians when he ousted a democratically elected civilian government headed by Alhaji Shehu Shagari in a military coup. Noting that Buhari “deceived Nigerians” from 1983 to 1985, Jonathan quoted Babangida as saying, “The initial objectives of Buhari’s intervention were betrayed as there was a general deterioration of standard of living in the country.” The PDP candidate also pointed out that Babangida accused Buhari of being “too rigid in his attitude to national issues” and “became alienated from the people” in the course of his stay in power. He, therefore, challenged Buhari to tell Nigerians how he intends to revive the economy. Jonathan said, “They are telling young Nigerians that they are going to change the economy but they have not told us how they want to manage the economy more than us. “If they say they want to change agriculture, they should tell us the weak links in the agriculture value chain and what they want to do about it. “I said in Lagos that I want to work with young people, not to deceive people. “I am not going to run the government based on my habits, I am going to run the government according to global best practices.” Jonathan also insisted that he was committed to the campaign against corruption. “There is no government that has fought corruption more than we do,” he said, noting that some previous administrations pretended to be fighting corruption while oppressing their enemies. Best prices of phones, accessories & gadgets on PricePadi.com He recalled that Buhari jailed some prominent Igbo politicians while in office as head of state, including former Vice-President Alex Ekwueme and former governor of old Anambra State, Chief Jim Nwobodo. Stressing that Buhari jailed politicians on trumped up charges, Jonathan said, “You can no longer carry people and put them in prison for 301 years.” The President equally accused Buhari of having a wrong idea of corruption. According to him, Buhari believes that every wealthy Nigerian is corrupt. He said, “If a Nigerian businessman has a private jet, then you are corrupt but if a South African has a private jet then you commend him. “If you have a good house, then you are corrupt, if you have a good car then you are corrupt – that is his definition of corruption.” Jonathan accused his opponent of making spurious claims against him. The President said, “They are saying that government is corrupt but they are not telling us what they are going to do to stop corruption. Let them go back to their consultants to coach them, then I will listen to them. “They should tell us how they are going to manage the economy better than we do. “They are saying we stole foreign reserves, nobody can steal foreign reserves – spurious allegations.” He also reiterated his claim that Buhari did not equip the military while he was the head of state. Jonathan said that he had done more than his predecessors to shore up the country’s defence. “For 30 years, we had only one frigate, now we have four additional frigates,” he said. In the same vein, he pointed out that Buhari did not find any woman worthy enough for appointment when he was the military head of state. The President asked Nigerians to assess him and Buhari by looking at how they performed during their respective periods in office. He said, “They have deceived us before and they want to deceive us again. “Go and find out whether these people are deceiving you or are telling you the truth. “People are assessing me because I have run this country for some years – they have run this country for two years. “They came with promises but immediately they came in, what they did was to jail Jim Nwobodo for 201 years.” |

This post of yours is laughable, cos you just lifted it somewhere and you have no steam to expatiate MadamExcellency:What 'drove' the foreign investors away between June, 2015 to date? MadamExcellency:How would it have been implemented? Care to break it down for Jonathan? Don't just make comments, back up your comments please MadamExcellency:How would he have done that? Or the dollars they looted for the election, would have been collected and repumped into the economy? Do you know the meaning of liquidity? MadamExcellency:I see. Where were these diasporas people when NOI said Nigeria is broke and needed to borrow to pay salaries? Didn't they pump in the money or they pumped in and the money was looted? MadamExcellency:Under whose regime was corruption so so pronounced? Whose body language encourage corruption? Under whose regime did Dasuki gate happen? Under whose regime did farouk Pawan hide money in cap? Under whose regime did we record fuel subsidy scam? You have nothing to say, go sleep MadamExcellency:Which dollars? The one that was used to prosecute the 2015 election? Or did you miss that part from the article? As a result of the mopping up of the dollar from the system for non-productive use, a less than 3 per cent differential between the bank naira-dollar rate and the black market rate after the November 2014 devaluation is now about 13 per cent in less than five months. This is not in the best interest of the economy and after the election, if prices of crude continue its southward journey, things will become worse as fewer dollars will be available at the foreign exchange market. Who was the president in 2014, when dollars were being mopped out for non productive reasons? Whose wife is laying claims to over $20million? MadamExcellency:Any evidence to empirically prove Amechi used River state money to sponsor buhari? You have no point to prove at all |

WHEN YOU HEAR NIGERIA IS IN RECESSION AND YOU SEE THIS !!!! FG Approves more external borrowings, says it will boost the dwindling economy The question is why borrowing when they claimed to have saved N2.6trn through TSA(http://thenationonlineng.net/govt-realises-n3tr-tsa-says-systemspecs/) N1.4trn from Subsidy ( https://dpr.gov.ng/index/nigeria-saves-n1-4-trillion-from-subsidy-removal/) N3.2trn from recovered loot N665bn from stamp duty N1.1trn from custom N2.6trn from Tax revenue N2.7trn from crude oil The list is endless. According to various reports by FG the total fund generated so far FG is above N13.2trns. Remember the 2016 budget is N6.4trn. How come FG is still borrowing to Fund N6.4trn Budget when it has generated over N13.2trn https://www.nairaland.com/3324639/when-hear-nigeria-recession-see#49003423 |

davodyguy:1. TSA refers to Treasury Single Account, a public accounting system using a single account, or a set of linked accounts by government to ensure all revenue receipts and payments are done through a Consolidated Revenue Account (CRA) at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). 2. The pilot TSA scheme commenced in 2012(Jonathan's tenor) using a unified structure of accounting for 217 government Ministries, Departments and Agencies, MDAs, for accountability and transparency in public fund management.3. All government MDAs remit their revenue collections to the CRA through their individual commercial banks on a fee-for-service remuneration basis. 4. Although all monies earned by the federal government through value added tax (VAT), customs duties, immigration and other charges, are supposed to be paid into the CRA, a few exceptions border on accounts operated by joint venture partners with government, like oil mining leases (OMLs) in the oil and gas industry. 5. Deposit Money Banks (DMBs) are allowed to maintain revenue collection accounts for MDAs, but all collections must be remitted to the CRA at the end of every banking day; that is MDAs’ accounts with DMBs must be at zero balance at the end of every banking day. 6. TSA allows government banking to be unified, to enable the relevant stakeholders, such as the Ministry of Finance and Accountant General of the Federation to have full oversight of all cash flows across different bank accounts. 7. The different TSA account types include main account; subsidiary or sub-account; transaction account; zero balance account; imprest account; transit and correspondence accounts for different transaction purposes. 8. TSA helps check incidence of multiple accounts operated by government MDAs for collection and spending of government revenues. 9. TSA will ensure adequate monitoring of government revenue receipts and expenditures and block leakages, as no MDA is allowed to keep any operational bank account. 10. TSA will help check incidence of idle cash lying over extended periodsin bank accounts held by spending MDAs, while government continues to borrow to execute its budgets. 11. Under TSA, DMBs using public sector funds deposited by MDAs to make free profits will not be possible. 12. To pay money under TSA, depositors make payment to a transitaccount in a commercial bank and the funds are automatically remitted to the CRA in the CBN at regular intervals, say at the end of the business day or at more frequent intervals 13. Payments through the TSA followan electronic system, with direct payments or deposits to the bank account of the beneficiary MDA. 14. MDAs registered on the electronic payment platform, or CBN Payment Gateway, through the Settlement Centre, Funds Department, Office of the AccountantGeneral of the Federation are grantedaccess to funds collected on their behalf at the CBN. 15. The TSA scheme covers all MDAsas well as other institutions and parastatals that collect revenues andmonies payable to FGN, including all forms of receipts, refunds, operating surpluses, transfers, donations, over-payment, taxes and customs duties, etc. http://www.premiumtimesng.com/features-and-interviews/199725-15-things-know-treasury-single-account-tsa.html |
