otukpo:You nailed it! Nigeria is in deep need of industrialization!!! Almost as if our African leaders are generally stupid!!! They should take a cue from post world war 2 Germany , even Russia......Nigerians and Africans in general tend to be mentally lazy!!!! Industrialization and infrastructural development cannot be stressed enough.....Instead they would rather pay themselves fat salaries and worry about lining their pockets with gold! If i could curse these leaders i would!!!! So much potential....even our people need a cultural revolution and a rethink and re-orientation when it comes to the way we do things!!!! |

Every time I hear a mineral resource has been discovered in Nigeria, I quaver in my boots praying America and her allies will not come and give us "freedom" and "democracy" a la Iraq, Libya and Afghanistan. |

We need to come up with a Nigeria-centric plan for exploitation and production of Nickel. We must use the crude oil as an example and produce a plan that will see Nigeria and Nigerians maximize the benefits of such natural resource. Firstly, come up with the whole value chain for Nickel. Secondly, attract foreign investment for all the value chain for Nickel and setup policies and laws that will make it a success. Thirdly, develop a local content law for Nickel ensuring Nigerians and Nigerian Company are allowed 60% local content. Fourthly, make sure only finished items of Nickel are exported. If you want it, Come into Nigeria. Make your setup, Produce and export from Nigeria. Fifthly, ensure proceed from the sales of Nickel is not shared like is the case for crude oil. Plan for post Nickel resources, by ensuring proceed are sovereign bonded or saved at least 30%. 70% of the proceed should be used according to the following plan: 1. Immediately initialise, pay in full will a delivery time line of 18months a nothing less than 40,000 MW power plan. 2. Ensure nothing less than 36 cities upgrade in infrastructure, utilities and lifestyle living which will attract the tourism much needed for our country plus forward looking in project involved in so that we can meet pragmatism as well as aesthetics. 3.Complete the Nigeria Integrated transport master plan with a 5 years in mind. 4. Create the Nigeria-centric society where Nigeria work for Nigerians and the sheer fact you are a Nigerian means your life is secured at least from the dividend from our sovereign investments. 5. Complete the Ajaokuta Steel plant was a lateral-integration for Nickel produce. Anything short of these means we are not learning from our mistakes and it is better we do not tap the resources as it will amount to waste of good resource as well as remarkable opportunity to come out of our poor statehood. |

Nigerians from all works of life, rise up now and call for restructuring of the country. Lets look beyond party. Every region now have natural resources, so no part will feel short change. Lets do away with this monster that has been eating our progress up, called federal system. Nigeria would have been great, if we have go the way of fiscal fedralism. Now oil is found in Lagos, plus Ondo state, southwesth. nickel, gold & posseblely oil in chad basin, north. This is time to restructure Nig. or all these discovering will go the way oil went in Nig. |

if we want to really grow,we must stop selling our god-given resources as prodigal bastards and importing them at a very high price that our same clueless govt will have to subsidize it for us. we should make favorable policies for local manufacturers such as proforce and innoson to benefit more from these resources. let me ask us"will Americans sell their. resources to us" they don't because they are not foolish . |

we should be think of turning the raw material into finish product, then exporting the product to other countries .....not always exporting the raw material later to bring it back as a finished product. If we cant export it as a finished product , then we stockpile it till we knw what to do with it |

Oliviaarims:Amen, but where do we get our refined petroleum products despite the fact we have crude oil in Nigeria? Did you read that Nigeria want to import bitumen from outside despite having the second largest deposit in the world? Where do we get most of the rice we eat in Nigeria, despite the huge land resources we have? We have cocoa in Nigeria, but where do we have our beverages from? Cotton is grown in Nigeria in abundant but were do we get our textiles from? How much do they build and equip a world class hospital? A single Nigerian saved $15000000, for medical bills abroad, our President even went outside the country to treat ordinary ear infection! |
