Tourism is one of the established sources of revenue for any nation and it’s great knowing that Nigeria has not slacked in taking advantage of that aspect. Besides our tangible culture such as food, clothing and arts and craft, there are other media through which visitors from neighbouring or far countries can contact and have a feel of what Nigeria is about. Highlighted below are 5 popular tourist attractions and destinations here in Nigeria.

Ikogosi Warm Spring – located in Ekiti Local Government Area, Ekiti state, Ikogosi hosts a rock from which both warm and cold water flow side by side and meet to form a confluence. A couple of myths surround the origin of the spring, the most popular being that warm and cold springs were wives of the same husband who turned to springs in the wake of rivalry between them. The hot and ill-tempered wife turning into a warm spring and the cool tempered wife turning into a cold spring. The story is still being speculated but in the mean time, it continues to attract visitors who want to experience this wonder for themselves. Added to that, there is now a pool sourced directly from the spring’s water in which people can take a dip.

Olumo Rock – Olumo Rock is located in Abeokuta, Ogun State. The history of the rock dates back to 1830 when it served as a hideout in times of the Egba War. Today, it is one of the acclaimed tourist destinations and even has elevator facilities in place to enable people reach its highest point which is about 137 meters.

Obudu Cattle Ranch – also known as the Obudu Mountain Resort is located in the northeastern part of Cross-Rivers. It was developed in 1951 and recently, a cable car has been added to the resort to give an all-round view of the scenery. Obudu resort has continued to host an influx of indigenes and non-indigenes as the facility stays witnessing development by the Cross-River State Government. It is no doubt one of the well-known holiday and tourist resort centers in Nigeria.

Freedom Park – Freedom Park Lagos was born out of the ruins of Her Majesty’s Broad Street prisons. It was reconstructed to preserve the history and cultural heritage of the Nigerian people. It was built to commemorate the 50th anniversary Independence Celebration in October 2010 and the park serves as a National Memorial, a Historic landmark, a Cultural site and an Arts and Recreation center.

Jos Wildlife Park – located 4km from the state’s capital, Jos Wildlife Park offers a variety of animal species ranging from Lions, Elephants, Monkeys, Crocodiles etc. It threw its gates open to visitors in 1972 and from then till 1977, different reserves were commissioned. Depending on season, games are viewed at the park from 10am to 6pm every day.
