A Peek into the World's Largest Waterfall- Victoria Falls by jidedoKQ(op):
Only few or none is as spectacular, grand and large as the great Victoria Falls. Located on the fourth largest river in Africa- Zambezi River– in the beautiful town of Livingstone, Zambia; this waterfall is a grand beauty to behold.

Victoria Falls has a length of over one kilometre and it’s over a hundred metres high which makes it the largest waterfall in the world. Known as Mosi-oa-Tunya– meaning ‘The Smoke that Thunders’- by the locals, the waterfall’s noise can be heard from a distance of 40 kilometres and visible from 50 kilometres away.

The waterfall is a UNESCO Heritage Site and it attracts tourists from all over the world. The best time to see the scenic and grand features of the falls is when the water level rises in April when the rainy season ends. During this period, an average of 500 million litres of water flows while the lowest level is between October and early November. The water level drops during this period and it’s very possible to walk through some parts of the waterfall.

Victoria Falls is spectacular due to the natural phenomena that occur around it, like the rainbow that appears above it, the spray which looks like an inverted rain and the mist which can be seen from a long distance away. There are so many activities that tourists can indulge in around Victoria Falls. You can do the ‘flight of angels’ which involves viewing and touring the scenic and picturesque waterfall landscape from a helicopter flight. Tourists can raft on the wild rapids below the falls- this is for the overly adventurous and it’s a very popular adventure in the area alongside kayaking, canoe ride, fishing and riding on horseback.

There’s the Victoria Falls National Park which contains abundant wildlife like elephants, giraffes, zebra and antelopes. You can take a boat or open vehicles for game viewing. Witnessing the wildlife in their natural habitat, untamed and undisturbed.

Affordable and quality accommodation is available for tourists and visitors; you can book in advance to get the best service. There is an airport in Livingstone and Kenya Airways uses it as a stopover destination for customers on its Lagos to Cape Town route.

The area is very peaceful and there no security situations that will scare you away from visiting this magnificent natural wonder. The people are warm and will welcome you with a smile, always ready to help- all you need to do is ask and you will be surprised at their generosity and goodwill.
