Re: Total Cost Of Clearing A Vehicle In Nigeria by JaaizTech: 6:03pm On Sep 20, 2016
I find it strange that clearing agents, prefer to just quote prices without giving you a breakdown of what the cost is meant for. I think the client should be made to understand what the agent is charging for his services, what is being paid as the actual import duty and what is being paid to the shipping company, I think this way clients can make more informed decisions. I just feel if I understood how the process works then I would have been able to make more informed decisions.

2007 benz Gl450:#1.950m
2011 Toyota sienna:#1.3m
2009 Toyota venza:#1.3m
I'll advice u use Grimaldi as shipping line

evening sir

what's happening this days about clearing no one can determine a real and stable value, reason is that federal government as set the customs tariff to forex,so the clearing charges are not stable and theres flauntuation on clearing charges

That is exactly what I am talking about. Many people do not understand what they are paying for. For example I paid 312k as import duty, 46k to the shipping company Grimaldi, 50k for the agent's services. My import duty was charged at 302 naira to 1 dollar. My point is almost every agent I spoke to was unwilling to give a breakdown except one. Now, I understand that exchange rate is also key when making my estimate but very few agents care to explain this to u. They just throw figures at u.

Is the cost of clearing done as per the cost of purchase of the car over there, or there is a general base value that customs use for the year/brand of the imported car?

I think if you answer the question from that angle, you would have educated a lot of people.
Re: Total Cost Of Clearing A Vehicle In Nigeria by agabusta: 8:35pm On Sep 21, 2016
femmy2010:
The amount you bought your vehicle does not matter to Customs as they use their already calculated valuation .
Meaning you could buy a car for $3,000 and Customs valuation for it is $5,000.

So get the exact quote that would clear your shipment to allow you make an informed decision before shipping .

Need our service?
Call 08036363467 or send an email to info@dudzmobility.com

Please what do they use in arriving at their valuation? Do they have a standard template or it is dependent on the mood of the person doing the valuation?
Re: Total Cost Of Clearing A Vehicle In Nigeria by agabusta: 8:37pm On Sep 21, 2016
jarkbauer:

I doubt that the value of the car does not count.

A friend of mine cleared a 2011 highlander recently. The car was bought at $12100. It was cleared for about 1.6million

On his papers, the car was valued at $12100 x 313 = N 3,787,300
The 35% alone was N1,325,555

So explain this

I think the cost of shipping is also used in the calculation.

Hey my brother,
there is nothing hidden in this business. it is just about exchange of money.
u want break down, simple.
for example 1999 camry
customs duty is $1,886
($1,886 x 306 x 35 ) /100 = ans
total duty = ans x 1.281
underage fee 30k it depends on the terminal
Shipping & terminal charges 35k
running expenses 20k
Agent 20k

sum it up. chi kena, lo ba tan.
