The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has
insisted that it would go on with the September
23 worldwide rally to protest against the
continuous incarceration of its leader, Nnamdi
Kanu, by the Federal Government. Recall that the pro-Biafra group had on Sunday disclosed that it would carry out a worldwide rally to protest the continuous incarceration of Kanu by the Federal Government. The group had warned residents of the South East to stay-in-doors on Friday as a mark of solidarity for Kanu. IPOB also threatened that markets, banks and other institutions should be shut down, while movement would be restricted in the whole of the South East geo-political zone. Following the sit-at-home order, the Enugu State Police Command on Monday arrested 12 members of the group for threatening to attack traders of Ogbete market in the state if they open for business during the protest. But IPOB in a statement by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Mr Emma Powerful titled: “To set Ourselves Free” said there is no backing down on the planned protest march. The group called on its members and Igbos at large to resist all forms of intimidation, harassment and senseless killings against freedom agitators in Nigeria. Urging all Igbos to observe the peaceful protest, IPOB said, “As we make our positive statement on Friday, about how we feel in this false union and false marriage of incompatible bed fellows, between 7am and 4pm, by sitting at home, it becomes necessary to remind ourselves why it is important to save and protect the future of our unborn progeny.”
