It depends on how you define prostitution. but for the most part, its illegal to engage in transactional sex from a fixed venue(ie brothel based).

ITs not as straight forward as that. Morally, of course, we all agree its wrong. But as far as the criminal code is concerned, only brothel-based, under-aged, forced/coerced, activities of pimps/madams are explicitly prohibited. When it comes to those ladies that hang around on the street waiting for paid sex, it be becomes less clear.
