For visitors or those living in the UK, Lebara Mobile has some of the cheapest tariffs for making calls to Nigeria especially when you sign up for the BEST tariff, so I was surprised to receive the text message below:

Due to increase in termination rates by the Nigerian Telecom Regulator, our rates are changing from 26.09.2016
See http://www.lebara.co.uk/prepay/rates

Dear customers, effective 26.09.2016, there will be price changes to calls made to Nigeria , which will be as below. Saver and UK Plus Nigeria Fixed rate is increasing from 1p to 5p & Nigeria Mobile rate is increasing from 9p to 12p. Best Rate for Nigeria Landlines is increasing from 1p to 5p & Nigeria Mobile rate is increasing from 2p to 9p.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
For a mobile provider like Lebara which is usually so competitive in pricing to have hiked their prices to such an extent, I can imagine that the Nigerian Telecom increase was a big one. Yet no one can see what benefit all these increments are having in Nigeria.

My conclusion - the ill wind of change is blowing everywhere, not only Nigerians living in Nigeria are impacted.

The Tinubu model of further taxation is failing already. There is a limit to taxation without incurring inflation.

I bet they will. Over a 400% increase from 2p to 9p, very unfair.

So the NCC has approved a new tariff regime quietly without alerting telecom service users they are supposed to protect.

Na so o, the wind of change is blowing far and wide. Really annoying. I don't mind increments if I can see what the money is being used for, but that is definitely not the case here.

Switch to Varizon if you live in US. They have a plan to call Nigeria for $15 unlimited call.
