This state police is a welcomed development, man o war should be giving this opportunity to show what they can do....they have been around for sometime now since 1951 |

Inasmuch as I support this move, what of the funding. The states that are owing workers salaries up to 8 months, how can they help in this regard |

ha! with the way this oshiomole boys behave? you want to introduce state police to harass us more? state govt agencies are giving us headaches and you now want to arm them? I am really afraid because of this news. The level of oppression, harassment and unjustified arrests would just be unquantifiable. Imagine we have this in place today, PDP would have since withdrawn from this election |

TPAND:It is not a must all the states establish state police at the same time. Any state that has the resources can go ahead after the law has been promulgated. |

How about regionalism and making sure only sensible graduates get employed? University graduates I mean with very good results and not those thugs in uniform How do they want to form this with no regionalism abi federalism? They just want to be stupid Sha. Revenue from oil has dipped, there's no reduction on their yeye budget for house of reps and they want state police smh |

state police in this tribalised and unbalanced society? if we had state police, one can only imagine what the Oba of Lagos would have done, if he had the mind to threaten people with "lagoon baptism" knowing fully well this same man was a former police inspector. our politicians will use it to witch-hunt their opponents at will. let's work for a just and equitable society before going for state police |

Lagos state gvt has already approved the neigbourhood watch. They have recruited and waiting for tools to start operation probably after independence celebration. Am sure lagos state gvt has the capacity to finance this. Lagos need more law enforcement agency. Be it state and federal. omonnakoda: |

Hmmn, then come and see how politicians will use the state police for selfish gains, just like the state electoral commission ISEC |

Can state governors pay the salaries of the personnel? It was before that revenue sharing was mouth watering the idea was affordable. Any governor struggling to pay salaries will not want to venture into increasing her recurrent expenditure instead will use less amount to support existing security agencies like the police, army and civil defense. All arms of government must minimize their recurrent expenditure and spend more on Capital projects which attracts both local investors and DFI. This is what governance is all about both whether in boom, recession or depression. |

ITbomb:While I am not opposed to the idea of state police, a huge concern is nigeria's inability to diligently implement an idea without selfish ulterior motives. Eventually, state police will be hijacked for political gains and there will be conflict of interest between the state police and federal police. Many rift can arise and we find a situation whereby the ones that are to protect are the one inflicting more pain and hardship. Imagine that we have to deal with all the forceful extortions of federal police, lastma, Kai and co, then you now add state police! A country where paying salaries is as tedious as entering heaven ?Nigeria isn't ripe for state police yet, more so not politically yet... |

i am tempted to say this is a good move, but Nigeria knows how to turn good things into bad things. 1. Hope the state government won't owe them like they've been owing their civil servants for months now. Imagine if police in a state goes on strike for lack of salary. 2. Hope the governors won't use them for personal, selfish purposes. He who pays the piper dictates the tune. |

W ITbomb:Nigeria don't need it, they will become tools for politicians, business men and top government officials as an object of oppression and other vices. You can't go against your pay master, as far as loyalty is concerned. Because of most politicians selfish interest they will want it to succeed. Instead they should reveal the salaries of the federal police, encourage security liaison, police community relationship and also encourage better working relationships with the vigilantes and other traditional policing system. |

It will b a historic catastrophe. Imagine a Nigerian police wch is funded by FG, never owed a salary & still shoots ppu bcz of #50, wat do u think will bcz of dem wen dey r funded by states & can b owed as mch salaries as d governor so wishes, wat will bcm of state security wen police go on strike, since d national assembly cannot help us solve our problems why add to it. Wat have we done to deserve these kind of leaders in this country. God why? |
| Re: House of Reps Backs State Police In 36 States by NOETHNICITY(m): 12:25pm On Sep 28, 2016 |
Clentuzbaba:The biggest problem we ve in Nig is our politicians. The crop oF politicians we ve in Nig re unimaginably terrible. Actions of Politicians led to militancy and bokoharam. Now with state police more to come. |
