A Redeemed NANS! “Don't Toil With The Lives Of Our Students” -Aruna Kadiri Tells by akolo321(op): 6:44am On Oct 08, 2016
Being a comrading comrade of actions, immediately after he took oath of office as the 28th NANS President, Comr. Aruna Kadiri of UniBen alongside other leaders led some dogged Nigerian students to the Turkish Embassy demanding for the unconditional release of its members who were arrested and detained some days ago upon arrival at Ataturk International Airport in Istanbul, Turkey.

According to reports, over 50 Nigerian students were arrested in Turkey, allegedly on the order of the government. The detained Nigerians are mainly students of Fathi University, one of the 2,099 schools shut down by the Turkish government for links with Fethullah Gulen, the alleged mastermind of the failed July 15, 2016 coup in the country.

NANS is finally back to campus after many years of struggle, Nigerian students expressed their joy over the first of its kind inauguration of the National officials on campus which was held in the University of Abuja, Gwagwalada, FCT on Thursday October 6th, 2016.

Before his victory at the poll, it is worthy to note that Comr. Aruna promised during his Redemption Campaign across Nigerian campuses to not only bring NANS-Back-To-Campus but will also make SUGs which he said must be democratically elected the fulcrum of his administration.

“We will institutionalize a framework that will ensure smooth and speedy transition as this has been the bane of our Association at all Levels. Elections will be held as at when due.

“NANS under my leadership will monitor all Students’ Union election with a view to ensuring transparency and fairness. We will ensure that school managements do not interfere in electoral processes as it is now the common practice.

“My Presidency will ensure that all Campuses are adequately unionized. We will end Caretaker Students’ Unions anywhere they exist in our schools. Students’ Union Governments will form the fulcrum of our administration, hence our desire to revamp unionism nationwide,” he said.

Fulfilling his earlier vow to lead Nigerian Students to the Turkish Embassy in Abuja if their members are not released unconditionally, the Uniben bred Comrade in a peaceful protest yesterday sent a strong message to Turkish High Commissioner to Nigeria, Hakan Cakil. Comr. Aruna warned on possible shutdown of the Embassy if their demand isn't met.

“Turkey must not continue to toil with the lives of our students and be continually victimised and intimidated. We have over 50 of Nigerian students in Turkey that they claimed they are terrorists and locked in a room, after a failed coup. They are treating our students like animals and feel their is no one to speak for them,” he added.

The new NANS President according to both foes and friends, despite being outspoken and a strong believer in what he think is right, he is also a listener and proactive with what he learn from those around me. Aruna over the years in the Students struggle has always campaigned passionately for the greater good of Nigerian students.

In the bid to redeem the association lost glory and also, most importantly to guide NANS against “image laundering”, Comr. Aruna reiterated his administration's commitment to deploy every available instrument to ensure a good image for NANS.

“NANS under my watch will ensure that we return to the past where our views on national issues were respected and accepted with every modicum of seriousness. We will continue deploy every available instrument to ensure a good image for NANS.

“However, let it be known that our approach will not change our core traditions as these are ‘genetic’ and incorruptible. It is instructive to state that NANS will continue to collaborate with government and individuals in achieving some of her objectives as long as such cooperation/ventures do not affect our corporate image or negatively influence our decision making,” he said.

It Is No Longer BUSINESS As USUAL. NANS Isn't For Sale At Any Price. The right of every Nigerian Student is a priceless jewel. God bless Nigerian students.
